The University of Texas at Austin | Alternate Entry Master of Science in Nursing (AE-MSN) 2023

Starting a thread for those applying to UT's AE-MSN program for 2023.

Any advice on financial aid and scholarships? Do we have to wait for acceptance letter to start.

Thanks and good luck everyone! The waits killing me

You can fill out and submit the FAFSA now, but have to wait for acceptance to apply for UT School of Nursing scholarships. You can always look for other scholarships not through UT though.

Hey guys,

I just found this forum so I know I'm late to the game LOL. Has anyone figured out if they were still interviewing? I interviewed in December, and was reading through previous year forums trying to see any "trends". Wishing everyone the best of luck as we try not to lose our sanity ?

I don't have anything to contribute, just wanted to drop in and say that I am losing my mind waiting to hear back and I wish the best of luck to everyone else waiting right now ?

My interview was on Thursday. I was originally a PMHNP applicant who was deferred to the LeaDS track, so my guess it that they did all of the interviews for people who were deferring or applying to both tracks last week, and that they're finished with interviews now. Based on previous trends, my assumption is they're reviewing applications and making decisions this week and will be emailing us either next week or the following week. That's what I'm hoping, at least!

Whoops - I meant my assumption is they're reviewing applications and making decisions next week (the week of the 30th) and reaching out to us the first week of Feb!

That makes sense based on the previous years for sure. I'm so nervous about the whole decision making process ?

Does anyone know if you have to have residency status before you start program to get in state or can you apply still after a year in program?

I looked through a lot of the past forums, and some of the FAQs on the AE-MSN website. What I gathered is that you have to be a resident at the time of application in order to be considered to pay "in state tuition". You also cannot have your status updated for tuition purposes, if your residency status changes during enrollment. Again, no expert on this so the most accurate answer would come from calling the financial department.

To be considered "in state" you have to live in Texas for 12 months and have to have established it as a residence - own property or work. If you're married or a dependent of a parent then you might be able to use their Texas resident status. If you aren't a resident your first year, it is possible to get resident status after you have been in Texas for a year.

Does anyone know how getting instate residency works? Do you have to establish residency 1 year before application or acceptance? I know some programs there isn't much difference for tuition, but the website is a little unclear how

Thank you so much, I will be applying next round and will be moving there this Summer for other reasons. Should I be accepted, I was trying to figure out if the 12 months starts at application or acceptance/ enrollment and if I didn't get the cut off, but was already living there would I at least be able to apply for in state the following hear. Maybe I will reach out to the finance department and find out. Thank you for responding!
