Starting a thread for those applying to UT's AE-MSN program for 2023.
I would watch the recorded Zoom Information session available on the UT School of Nursing website. Then also plan on attending one of the live virtual information sessions and you can get questions answered. They are open to giving specific stats for each track. Do you have any specific questions?

I plan on applying for LEADS so I guess just really what stats a they are looking for in that area. Then also what the first semester is like once admitted.
I will definitely look into that, I watched the info session already just waiting to hear about a date for the live information session.
thanks!

Do any current students have advice for people applying for the upcoming application round. I'm very nervous, just wondering about stats and what to except/ what might be expected of us!
thanks for this group!
My biggest piece of advice is to have a 4.0 in your prerequisites. I know a lot of great candidates weren't considered because they didn't have a 4.0. It's a competitive program, so GPA is the first round knock out. I'm not a current student. I was first on the waitlist for the PMHNP track. I turned it down because my husband is in the military and we ended up not being able to move to Fort Hood like originally planned. The stats change depending on the track. You can check out some of the statistics (number of applicants, admitted, selectivity) here: https://gradschool.utexas.edu/admissions/where-to-begin/admissions-and-enrollment-statistics
Just narrow the search to nursing and you can see the relevant info. Your essay is important too. It helps them get to know who you are and what you're bringing to the table. It shouldn't be treated as a second resume. Be personal. Tell them a story that makes them believe you'd be a great candidate. I talked about the death of my infant nephew and how the nurses in the NICU made me want to pursue nursing as a career, and I used a past, present, future mindset. If you have the GPA, decent LoR's, and a good essay, you should at least be selected for an interview (I say should because you never know). Then do some research on popular nursing school interview questions and formulate responses. You don't want to sound reheorificed, but you want to sound intelligent and like you prepped. Good luck next cycle!
Hi! Looking to get into the facebook group ? I'm a current AE student and wanting to share some stuff w y'all! Could someone help me get access to it?
(Nvm LOL just got in! Thanks @AustinNative!)
I wanted to make a new thread for this but the website won't let me, so I figure I'll just put a comment on this thread and maybe someone in the void will hear me! I'm applying this year for the 2024 cohort. I'm applying to the PC-PNP track. Did anyone apply to that last year, or is that a new program? If you did apply and were accepted, what did your stats look like?
I'm currently a medical assistant with one year of experience, but I have previous experience in homeless services and residential treatment. My letters of recommendation will be from the doctor I work with, a PA I work with who knows me really well, and my A&P lab instructor who is a UT grad school alumni. My BA is in anthropology, and my upper divison GPA is 3.625, but my prerequisite GPA is 4.0. Obviously I have a stronger passion for healthcare than I do for social sciences, and will be discussing my journey to deciding on nursing in my statement of purpose. I think that's a pretty exciting story, and it got me into the MA program I finished last year.
I know the NP programs are extremely competitive, but I think I have a pretty good chance of at least being accepted into the LeaDS track. Is management the only option with this track? I have 0 interest in being a manager. I am a labor organizer, so... ?
@munkyfusic I was accepted to the PC-PNP track. I had a 3.9 upper division GPA and a 4.0 prereq GPA. At the interview they said 56 applied this year, 15 were given interviews and they were planning to accept 3. I know some of the people who were not accepted were able to move their application to LeaDs (this happened earlier in the process, not in February when decisions came out).

Thank you so much for responding. Did you have any experience in pediatrics before applying? What did your GRE look like, if you remember?

Good point!
