  1. I haven't gotten one either. To me, the second week of April is "mid-April," not early April, so I'm hoping we'll get responses this week. But we shall see.
  2. I'm pretty laid back but I've been checking my emails several times a day and getting frustrated when I have one that's not from the nursing program ?‍♂️
  3. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to hear back, but it won't be too much longer!
  4. I haven't but I'm assuming we will by next week or the first week of April
  5. I think I have 38 points? I have a 4.0 GPA in the credits that I do have, prior college degree, certified MA and a few thousand hours of experience. This is the only school I can apply to this year, but if I don't get in, I'll reapply next year, and to PCC and OHSU's ABSN program.
  6. I thought about waiting until I have all of my prerequisites completed to apply for the following year's cohort, but I've been trying to go to nursing school since 2019 and got totally derailed by COVID. I'm getting a little antsy, so I decided to apply this year. I have the minimum required for applying. I figure worst case scenario, I don't get in this year and have a break to save money and apply again next year. Best case scenario, I get in. Seems win/win to me! Who else has applied, or is planning on applying?
  7. They confirmed in today's meeting that it's waived, but said that it might help if you submit it and have a good score.
  8. I don't think it will be, the website says that it's required for the application. I'm going to the information session today, I'll report back once I find out for certain.
  9. Thank you so much for responding. Did you have any experience in pediatrics before applying? What did your GRE look like, if you remember? Good point!
  10. Hi there, I commented on last year's thread because I wasn't able to make a topic, but I figured out how to make one and so I wanted to post for people applying to next year's cohort. Is there anyone currently in their PC-PNP program that would be willing to chat with me about the likelihood of acceptance? Is anyone else applying to that program? Or to the other ones?
  11. I wanted to make a new thread for this but the website won't let me, so I figure I'll just put a comment on this thread and maybe someone in the void will hear me! I'm applying this year for the 2024 cohort. I'm applying to the PC-PNP track. Did anyone apply to that last year, or is that a new program? If you did apply and were accepted, what did your stats look like? I'm currently a medical assistant with one year of experience, but I have previous experience in homeless services and residential treatment. My letters of recommendation will be from the doctor I work with, a PA I work with who knows me really well, and my A&P lab instructor who is a UT grad school alumni. My BA is in anthropology, and my upper divison GPA is 3.625, but my prerequisite GPA is 4.0. Obviously I have a stronger passion for healthcare than I do for social sciences, and will be discussing my journey to deciding on nursing in my statement of purpose. I think that's a pretty exciting story, and it got me into the MA program I finished last year. I know the NP programs are extremely competitive, but I think I have a pretty good chance of at least being accepted into the LeaDS track. Is management the only option with this track? I have 0 interest in being a manager. I am a labor organizer, so... ?
  12. Hey everyone, I'm about to start taking prerequisite classes for applying to nursing school next year. My school (Portland Community College) and many others that I've looked at give extra points for having some medical experience prior to applying. My top school doesn't *require* it explicitly, but their statistics show that 100% of the people who get accepted have some medical experience prior to applying. That being said, I'm wondering about what kinds of medical experience other people applying to nursing schools are getting? My school explicitly mentions LPN, CNA, EMT, and paramedics in one area, but then on the application it states that accepting medical experience is at the discretion of the admittance committee. Currently I'm working as a residential counselor in a licensed residential treatment facility for people who have traumatic brain injuries and severe, persistent mental illness. A lot of my job is medical in nature. I take vitals, handle medications, make notations of what people are eating and when, monitor them for changes in both physical and mental health (since they're often linked), and communicate with their service providers. Sometimes we help residents with personal grooming. I've compared this to the responsibilities of CNAs and there seems to be a ton of overlap, so, in my opinion, this job counts as medical experience. Obviously I should check with the nursing school and I will, but I'm curious in the meantime to know what other types of experience people have in the medical field. Thanks for reading!
  13. Someone I know had to fight to get into nursing school in Louisiana. The Louisiana SBON told her that her transition would prevent her from safely practicing nursing. She had to appeal the decision and is now able to go to school, but if she had any less fight in her she might have just accepted the decision, and it makes me wonder how many other trans people have been told the same thing. She's the only other trans person I know of personally who's pursuing a career in nursing. It's heartening to know you worked with transgender nurses, because that means we're at least able to get into the field. I agree with you that it shouldn't have any bearing on becoming licensed, but the ignorance is very real and I want to set realistic expectations for the struggles I may face.
  14. Hey y'all, I'm preparing to go to nursing school and I'm also starting my transition. It's a really scary, bizarre, interesting, and fulfilling time for me. I think that it's really important to have transgender nurses. I'm just wondering, how represented are we in the field? What are some barriers you have found in nursing? Have you had any issues with getting into nursing school or getting licensed as a transgender person? Have you had issues with employers? Coworkers? What kind of nursing did you all get into, and why? If you're not out and don't feel comfortable commenting here and outing yourself, you can message me. Thanks!
