Hi! Thought it would be helpful to make a thread for students planning on applying for UBC's Nursing Program for 2025!

There should be an email coming about pre-requisites if that hasn't been sent already to everyone. As soon as you get the pre-requisites email, I suggest starting to look at completing them as soon as possible! Other than that, email as needed in the sense of if you have a clarification, I would reach out to them understanding of course they may take some time to reply due to high volume of emails.

I just had my A&P from Athabasca to send because my course from my undergrad wasn't accepted. Also, did anyone on waitlist get info on where they scored in each category?
They are usually quite secretive of their admissions policies in terms of how they evaluate each applicant. However, rest assured that as long as you are on waitlist and you are on the lower part of it, there is a good chance you will get off of it. However, no guarantee so I would also look at applying to other places to keep your options open. If you are concerned about what is currently being evaluated, reaching out to them directly can potentially clarify some confusions, but not always because some information as I stated previously can be secretive for admissions process reasons.

No, whether you have ongoing coursework (pre-requisite or otherwise) is not a factor in your place on the waitlist.
The School of Nursing does not provide ranking/scoring information to successful or waitlisted candidates.

Thanks Riley! Listen to him folks, he's who helped me and our cohort when we were coming in (your senior's senior LOL)!
Hi everyone, congrats to everyone who received an offer!! I was wondering whether someone could confirm that UBC students (who haven't attended other post-secondary institutions) don't need to submit a final transcript? The website says we don't need to submit an Official Transcript, but does that mean we're required to upload a transcript ourselves (unofficial)? Thank you so much!

If you completed all of your necessary courses at UBC, you do not need to submit anything. They will automatically have your script in-house already.
If you have further uncertainties, best practice is to contact admissions office for school nursing at UBC. Following the information on the official site is always good but if you're uncertain it's updated sending an email is good.

Hi, thank you so much for your reply!
I was also just wondering, I noticed that on the UBC Nursing website, it says that for the term 5 clinical we could be placed somewhere in Metro Vancouver or nation-wide. Do you know how the location is assigned? I have responsibilities that might not allow me to move out of the Lower Mainland, so I was just a little worried.

Not to worry!
This is actually meant to help students meaning if there were out of province or further away placements nearer to students original place of residence, they could place there and not just be within the immediate vicinity of UBC since it could be really inconvenient for some folks if their original home is far away from campus.
You can totally get spots near lower mainland which shouldn't be a problem. You will get to choose where you want to go and it will be like applying for a job is my best knowledge of the process at this point. We are actually getting more details on this later this Summer so I am figuring it out myself, but the above information is what I have heard so far.
Hopefully that alleviates some worries!

No worries!
This forum page might get less active as time goes on since this year's admission cycle is well on its way. DM me and I can get you access to a student information forum that is more active if you are interested.

Great response in addressing that you don't have to worry about being assigned a placement outside of BC or the Lower Mainland but an important clarification: you do not get to choose where you want to go. Here is some info from the FAQ last placement process:
Why do I need to indicate that I can travel to areas outside Vancouver?
This is very helpful to the placement process because it provides additional details for possible matches. Consider communities where you live, that you can easily commute to or have family or friends that you can stay with. We place students in communities across the lower mainland including Tri-Cities: Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Langley, Surrey, White Rock, Delta, North Shore, Squamish, Richmond, Burnaby, New Westminster, and Vancouver.
What if I do not get my preferred area of interest for a placement?
Every effort is made to match students to suitable placements based on availability, learning needs and stated areas of interest. There is no guarantee that UBC will be able to secure a specific unit or practice area of your choice, however, you will be placed where you can successfully consolidate skills for entry to practice and complete the BSN program.
What criteria are used to decide whether I am assigned to an out-of-town/out of province (OOP) placement?
Out-of-town placements are generally made for students who indicate they are returning or relocating to a community after graduation. To be considered for out-of-town placement, students must meet specific criteria including being in good academic standing and having exemplified professionalism throughout the program. Any student who had practice or academic challenges and/or who has been on exigency learning plans is required to stay in the Metro Vancouver area where they can be placed at a stable practice site in order to consolidate skills and competencies with full support provided from faculty in the school. Students located in out-of-town areas are placed in their home province before students requesting out of Province placements therefore, opportunities for out of town and/or out of province placements may be limited. Please note if no confirmation received from OOP sites by Dec 1, 2024, a local placement will be assigned.
Is there any funding for transportation or accommodation for out of town placements?
As per UBC Academic Calendar Regulations, it is the student's responsibility to arrange travel and accommodation in all cases. Students will not be placed out of town unless the student can confirm they have appropriate travel and housing arrangements. There is currently no funding for transportation or accommodation related to placements. Students are expected to make scheduling and transportation arrangements if they wish to go out of town.
