Ah. My wife and I are doing the travel nurse thing to investigate places we would like to live. I (more than her) think we found that place in WA. Problem is, we have not been doing it long enough to put away the savings we'd want before we go into buying a home. Have to step up our savings plan if we want to get a house soon.

I was thinking, I'm spending money on a personal trainer. When I quit cold turkey (3 years str8 no smoking) before, I was exercising before I quit for about a month. Then I quit. It does help, or at least it helped me. I'd love to put down the smokes again now. It'll help the savings and I'll feel better.

Problem is, first time I quit cold turkey, I was a beast :angryfire for a month. Not sure that'll mix well with nursing. When I quit before, I was a student, no danger of losing a job over being short with people. Now I'm not sure if I can do it unless I am between assignments or something, but I'd rather not wait.

What can I do to stay compassionate? Self awareness is not enough.

Actually I did chantix. It ah, just made me have vivid dreams and thats it. Then again, I was not very loyal to taking it as prescribed. Hmmm, IDK, wonder if it could help me if I were more loyal.

yep, read the link.

vivid dreams is listed as one of the se's.

but i opted to use this resource vs the official chantix website, thinking mayo would be more neutral and comprehensive.

my bf has been taking wellbutrin to help with his smoking cessation. so far it's worked well, except now he's off the cigarettes and smoking cigars... he has about 3 per week(ew! worse and more smelly breath). he hasn't had a cigarette tho in about 2 months, which i'm proud of him for...

My brother in law went that route, cigars over cigs. Did it for like.......eh, 3 years. He's back on the cigs again. He became a truck driver, some guys complained about the lingering cigar smell, and he switched back.

I'm lucky about that one. Cant stand cigars myself (dont mind other people doing them, but I dont like smoking the at all). When I go cold turkey, Imean to cut everything out.

When I quit cold turkey the first time, I became addicted to fountain drinks. Not bottled pop, just fountain drinks. I was such a caffiene addict.

WOW.

2 days into not smoking. using the nicorette gum when at work. Its great, no nastyness while on the job. I wish I had done this sooner.

Dont get me wrong, I still crave a cigarette, but its not the "crazy out of body experience" that I went through before.

Glad I listened to your advice and did the gum.

Huh, I may look into that still too. I hear a lot of people say they start smoking once they quit the gum. I dont want that.

I tried the gum one time too but after a month using it i end up smoking again cuz of stress from school.

I tried Chantix and it made me so nauseated I could barely eat. My next step was the patch and I had a nasty skin reaction...so frustrating! I'm going to try hypnosis next. I have a friend that did it and hasn't smoked for two years! Good luck!
