The "Queen and her son" of Frequent Flyers

Published

Ok...

I know that we all have our share of FF in our ERs.

I know that we all run into them on the street and they talk to us like we are their best friend...and we probably are. I see more of them than my own family sometimes...how sick is that!??!

But Ithink we have the Queen and her little Prince of FF here in the happy Midwest! They moved here from Texas...so Tom...Look out cuz I'm taking up a collection to sending 'em back!!

Here's my sad tale of woe...

Sorry...I know it's long!

Mommy comes in c/o abd pain, back pain...

Comes in everyday, sometimes twice in a day, since Jan

(And BTW...who moves to Chicagoland in JANUARY!!!!!!!)

Always the same vague c/o...

Sonny boy always with her...he's 24.

After she's done...he checks in...migraine or panic attack...pick your poison

She is either in the ER or her MDs office or calling one of them EVERY DAY!

She's been admitted at least ten times...even calls while she is on the floor.

Not happy with her care...can we come up?

You have GOT to be kidding me!!!!!

They have social services, meals on wheels, family services (counseling), meds delivered to their apt, cab vouchers, chaplain services, all at the cost of the taxpayers. And my God, if they could just take a bath!

They STILL come in!!

HELP...

Hey guys!!!!

I really needed a laugh! This FF stuff is very good! If it makes you feel any better my son and sister work in a retail grocery chain and they have just as many funny stories related to FF's! Only their FF's steal food, try to distract the cashier out of money, etc. It's hysterical!

Anyway.......keep the humor going! When the "normal" patients say to me.....how do you put up with this crap? I just say if we don't laugh we'll all go insane.......or I say...now you know why all nightshift nurses are psychotic by morning! LOL!!!!:rotfl:

They pick him up at Media shops or @ the strip clubs. Same complaint: Chest pain and dysuria. Always wants a female to put a cath in. I'm not touching that one.

Oh Dear Lord!!!! I'm sure there are a bunch of sickos out there wanting this kind of stuff, huh? YICK!!!

What a concept!!!!! :rotfl:

You don't really think these folks are employable, do you? Who'd hire them? Even McDonald's expects one to bathe.

Whatever possesses people?

I come from EMS and used to be the one who delivered some of these FF who tested our patience too :chair: (sorry I brought 'em in, I had to!) In a HIPPA compliant way, I'll try and post a few for ya'lls enjoyment..

"Stan" (not his real name) had a similar nick to go with it of "Stan, stan, the diabetic man". This guy was a FF, with family calling emergency services at least 3 times per week. Everytime dispatch gave the address, we all knew what it was... "Stan" with his blood sugar around 30, swinging, incomprehedibly mumbling, etc. The episodes were brought on by him not eating(by his own choice.. he was living in a nice home with a fully stocked fridge),not checking bs's, etc. It was a great day when he got back to "normal" and refused transport.

How many FF's has everyone seen who's C/C is "anxiety". Uhmm... I imagine all us would have some anxiety when recieving multiple bills for prior transport and ER services from the last anxietal attack.

While doing ER clinics (for EMS, had to take VS, read strips, etc) one kid was triaged in after an amusingly failed suicide attempt... somehow, I doubt 30 tablets of Vitamin C will do the trick, though I bet his urine was healthy for a few days.

In additional to education on how to use/not to abuse the system, and hygeine techniques for all our sake! :chuckle

Thanks everyone for the great posts. They really brightened up my evening.

Stretch thin - a suggestion for the guy with the cath... get a male to perform it and make him go in with a large tube then he can mumble something about getting the kids size. Ruin the poor FF's day. You could also tell him that he has to wear a nappy. I am sure that would go down real well.

Thanks again everyone. Keep up the good work and don't forget that the FF's keep you employed.

I'll borrow this one the next time I hear some 'differently gifted' GOMER asks for a 'female nursie' to put the cath in...we have some very small ped's sizes! :rotfl:
