THE QUESTION US STUDENTS REALLY WANT TO KNOW?? Starting Salary and What State.

Published

When going into any profession, you always want to know what is the starting Salary. Please inform us curious nursing students with the following:

1. Starting Salary

2. Location (state)

3. Dept. or position.

Thanks Everybody.

East Texas 17.50 base. Real nice homes start at 80,000. Apartments rent for 500.00. no state income tax.

Specializes in Adult SICU; open heart recovery.

Staff RN, Washington, DC. $24.00/hr for new grads. +10% for 3p-11p ($26.40), +15% for 11p-7a ($27.60), +20% for permanent evenings, +25% permanent nights. +$5/hr for weekends.

Hillary

California (Los Angeles area)

$25/hr for new grads (goes up to $30 an hour after 6 months probation)

This is for ANY position (ICU/ER/etc)

If you work per diem (no benefits) its $40-50/hr (new grads can't do this in a lot of places until they have a year's experience)

However, housing here is very expensive, this salary is enough to just get by, but not to live nicely considering that a 350 square foot studio apartment is at LEAST $1350 a month!. :angryfire

That's another good point. Higher hourly pay doesn't mean much if you have to pay half a million just to live in a box (that is, if you want to buy a house).

Cost of living is very important too.

I personally moved to an area where the pay and cost of living is lower, but the area and, therefore, salaries are growing. I'm also close enough to major metro areas where the pay is higher if I want to commute.

:clown:

I live in Delaware, have been in the OR a year, and make $24.77/hr for day shift. $2.00 shift differential for 3-11 and 1.5 time for being on call. My starting rate was $22.23/hr.

Christine

You guys are all SO lucky! I am just a Nurse Tech right now, but at this hospital, new grad RN's make just about $16.87/hr plus 3% for each shift differential (3% evening, 6% night shift). Maybe I should consider moving when I become an RN in 2008. Oh yea, this is in Springfield, IL.

Hey I live in Philly too....What hospital do you work at.

I work in a small hospital near the border of Philadelphia. My base pay is $30.57. Diffs are $3.00 for3-11, $4.50 for 11-7.

I'm in the KS/MO area. KC metro new grad rates are ~$19/hr, Central KS is ~$17/hr. There is no diff for BSN vs RN. The real shame is what NP's are making in this area. I know one opening in a clinic is only offering 45K/yr with 5 yrs experience. What's the point.

I live in S.D. - cheap living, no state tax, and clean air. Starting salary for a new grad at my state facility is $17.44, differential $1.75 more. My hours are guaranteed, I don't get sent home unless I ask and there is always plenty of OT to pick up.

I'm in WV - starting rate about $17/ hr, 12% night differential, 15% weekend differential. I've been a nurse for five years and am up to $27 an hour

Specializes in rehab, antepartum, med-surg, cardiac.

The base pay where I work in Atlanta, GA is $20.20 per hour for new grads. Diffs are $3.50 per hour for 7P-7A, $5.00 per hour for weekends. It is probably very close to that at other hospitals in the area, between $19.00-$21.00.

Specializes in ER/Trauma, research, OR.

I live in Columbus, Ohio I recieved $20.75 as my starting point with $4.50 shift diff and $9.00 for weekend night diff.
