Im curretnly studying to get prepared for my nclex LVN and im trying to find a good way to review all the isolations guidlines as in what isolation and precautions would you take for a pt with chicken pox, rubeola, TB, aids, c-diff, mrsa, VRE ect.. ihave no clue where to start. Please Help!

I made flashcards for all the diseases--there were a ton! And then wrote either A, D, or C on the back of the flashcards (airborne, droplet, contact). Also, make sure to memorize what you need for each precaution (glove and gown for contact, mask for droplet, private room, etc). Then you should be fine if you memorize all them. I actually think the infection questions helped me on the NCLEX, because they were pretty straightforward. Good luck!

Make a chart: Airborne-->TB, Shingles, negative pressure room, special fitted mask, pt wears mask when been transported

Droplet: Meningitis, influenza, mask, 3ft from pt, cohort, pt wears mask when trasported

Contact: MRSA, C-DIFF, VRE, gown and gloves

Standard: gown when necessary (wound care), gloves, wash hands between pt, you assume everyone has some infectious disease

One more question where would i find what pts can room together and what pts need private rooms.

ex. a c-diff pt be with a vre pt?

a mrsa pt be with a staph pt?

No,

MRSA can be with another MRSA pt (COHORT)

If the infection is a different strain, they cannot share room
