The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I think you have to send all the previous transcripts.

In my nursing program there are a lot of courses you can take before getting accepted into the program, therefore when you start the program for most semesters you'll be attending part-time technically (still full-time work in my opinion!). So I'll have third funding preference, is it still worth my time to apply for this?

Kaybee24, I am not fall into any preferences. My EFC is 21233, but I will apply because I have already prepared all my docs. Hopefully, I can mail it out tomorrow.

Me too, I am a part-time student because I'm done with my prerequisites. Just give it a shot, in my opinion.

Thanks S.Vincent! Yea might as well give it a go :)

I could only find this about the transcript:

"Unofficial Transcripts – Each applicant must include a transcript from his/her current educational institution or, if not currently in school, a transcript from the last educational institution attended."

Does anyone have anything different? I only sent them my transcript for the school I'm currently at now

stucky621, that is only i found, too. guys, i just sent to packate out this morning. good luck everyone!

I called them, and they told me I needed to send transcripts for ALL the universities I've attended.

Also, they've been having problems with the essay form they require you to copy and paste your answers to; it doesn't show the entire questions when pasted. So they told me they're having people just send in their questions on a Word Document with all your information (like name, ssn, etc).

Hope this helps!

Just got an email from HRSA:

"If you refer to your NSP Program checklist and Self-Certification Form on page 2 next to Unofficial Transcript it states:

Each applicant must include a transcript from his/her current educational institution or, if not currently in school, a transcript from the last educational institution attended

Thank you for your inquiry to the HRSA Call Center."

so im only sending in my nursing school transcript!

Ahh....why does it have to be so contradictory about the transcripts??

My school messed up on the verification form. They put the correct start date and the correct length of the program but put a graduation date 2 years too late! I called multiple times, even spoke with a supervisor and got different answers on what to do. It seems the final answer is there is nothing I can do! Blah.

hey guys i was just wondering what number you guys are calling every time i call 1-800-221-9393 it gives me the prompt to press 4 and leave a msg and i have left a msg and no one has returned my call thanks

Does anyone know if the awards are first-come first-served or if they're waiting until the deadline to start doing this? Another thread here suggested the former, but when I spoke to someone at the call center, they said they hadn't started making awards yet because the deadline is still ahead...

Does anyone know if you are eligible for the HRSA nursing scholarship if you are in the accelerated 2nd degree nursing program (BSN)? I called and emailed them and recieved two different responses. Thanks!!
