The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

my gps is a 3.0, because im a transfer student and took my many of my pre-reqs at 2 other colleges my school doesnt add them in. i also have a prior degree, with my gpa being a 3.0 as well.

ok, so based on this mini study, we can assume that gpa is not a major factor to have credits pulled.

Specializes in Neuro ICU.
3.55

1 - You multiply the GPA by the credits in each case.

2 - Then add them together for the total quality points.

3 - Then divide the total quality points by the total credits.

Yeah, I know, I just didn't feel like calculating it. :)

pretty much!! all is not over joe, call the young lady that was nice to everyone! i hope all goes well for you, i'll be praying for you and ftmom!

Ok guys, let's find out between US (people who did not get their credits pulled) if GPA is one factor in the decision to award the scholarship.

Please state your CUMMULATIVE GPA ON FORM YOUR SCHOOL SUBMITTED TO HRSA (no prerequisites).

For example: My school counted my prerequisites GPA plus my first degree GPA, and that came out to a 3.18gpa. That is th gpa they sent to HRSA.

How about you guys? REMEMBER- CUMMULATIVE GPA ON FORM. thanks.

Last name B....School in PA.... Received the mistake email from VJ ONLY. No credit pulled as of yesterday. GPA 3.46

Last name starts with a G. I also only received the mistake email from JV. Going to school in TN. My GPA that was sent to HRSA was 4.0. I cannot check whether or not my credit was pulled because all of the websites to check say that they can't find my info which is probably because I don't have any credit.

Que sera, sera!

Anyone feel brave and like sharing the essays they submitted? I love to read fellow students' writing. I'll go first:

Please discuss your commitment to pursue a career in primary health care.

When I recently found myself as a single mother struggling to find a job to support myself and my two children, I began to think back to what aspects of my previous jobs I had enjoyed the most. It suddenly became clear to me what fulfilled me the most about each position: Caring for and assisting others. Coupled with my interest in and aptitude for science, it seems to me that nursing would be a perfect fit.

After giving birth to my children, I found a great respect for the nurses who cared for me on the labor and delivery floor. I can think of nothing nobler than assisting and caring for a woman who is bringing life into this world. I don't expect this job to be easy, but I do anticipate that I will enjoy going to work each day and relish the satisfaction that will come from knowing I am using my talents to care for others, especially those in great need.

I am extremely committed to achieving a career in health care. Over the last academic year, I have completed four classes, earning a 3.7 GPA while being the sole caregiver and provider for my infant and toddler sons. It is difficult to juggle caring for my two boys with school and financially supporting them, but I am happy to do it. I hope that I am setting a great example for them to keep reaching for a goal that will fulfill your desires while still living up to your responsibilities. Although they are only three years old and one year old, I think they can be proud of their mother for all that she does. I have no doubt that they will be proud of me when I graduate with my AS in Nursing, and can't wait to hear them tell their friends that their mother is a nurse or nurse midwife.

Specializes in Mental Health/Substance Abuse.

Last name starts with B, GPA is 3.46 and my credit was pulled on 8/12.

I really hope I get this! I would love to drop some hours at work to focus on school.

I am passionate about the nursing profession. Nurses have the respect and trust of people through the very nature of their work: It is not just a job, but a way of life and of looking at the world. I dedicated myself to nursing the day I applied to my BSN program, and my commitment is just as strong today. The fact that I'm married to a soldier made it risky for me to start my education, since there was always the possibility that I would have to move before I could complete my studies, but together my husband and I decided that we would do everything in our power to enable me to complete my degree. After three relocations in five years my family settled down in Tennessee in June 2007, and I immediately enrolled in college. I will complete my BSN in under four years and graduate in May 2011.

As soon as I graduate I will enroll in the FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner) program at Tennessee State University. As I continue my studies I intend to work as a nurse to practice my profession and to gain clinical experience. When I graduate from the FNP program I will begin my career as a family care provider. Within five years of earning my FNP I intend to pursue a doctorate in nursing practice. I believe that advanced practice nurses are an essential part of the healthcare team. I choose to pursue advanced degrees immediately after obtaining my BSN because with this education I will be better able to contribute to alleviating the national shortage of primary healthcare providers. I am committed to a lifelong career of providing primary health care.

This was mine... I never share this kinda stuff.... SO, take it easy on me....

Great essay, Sqoud! Also a wellplanned path! Best of luck to you!

Thank you! I think they need us nurses everywhere... We will all be successful with or without this scholarship..:)

Well written everyone. Here's to all of us scholership or not. With the courage and determination I hear in these papers and the discipline required to succeed I think we will see some very good nurses out of this bunch. Best of luck everyone.

Specializes in PACU.

Wow...After reading your essays! I am humbled...Mines doesn't compare so I am not even going to go there and post them. My cumulative GPA that my school submitted was 3.98, but after the spring semester it was 3.86. I received all the emails, and sent in all the required info. My school also sent in the DCW form and my analyst has been in contact w/ my school about my enrollment status. My credit was also pulled on 8/4. I am starting at private BSN program and I am in my junior year. Tuition of course is through the roof! 36K a year alone for tuition. If you add required fees and health insurance close to 40K a year! So I really hope that is not a factor. Good luck everyone regardless if we get this scholarship or not we are all aiming for the same goal and that is to be excellent NURSES! =]
