The College Network study guides worth it?

Nursing Students Excelsior

Not the program itself... I have known a bunch of Fire Monkeys that have paid for the program and never even cracked a book ( No offense to fire mokeys ). I would sign up for the Amway sceme before I ever let TCN vampires make a penny off of me.

I have however been told that they are a really good guide for the Excelsior exams.

I ordered anatomy and physiology sealed with the DVDs for 30 bucks from Amazon and was wondering how useful the guides were for the exams across the board?

I dont mind reading entire text books, but on difficult subjects sometimes I just prefer a more summarized version. I also like the fact that I dont have to print anything or need access to a computer.

As I mentioned before I have plenty of disposable income to throw at anatomy/phys, micro, and the nursing exams. Looking for input on these guides.

Hey everyone. I'm trying to get into the nursing program at my local college here in TX but got put on a waiting list. I've been told by several coworkers and neighbors that most people are on the waiting list for 2-3 years regardless of GPA (I have a 4.0). I don't want to wait that long.

I've finished all my per-requisite classes for my local college's program but am considering Excelsior's route as an alternative. However, for Excelsior, I need to take college algebra and sociology as well. Have any of you used TCN materials, or any other study guides (CLEP, Rue, ???) for these classes? I can take sociology at my local college next semester (Spring '15) but would like to go ahead and tackle algebra now. I took trig and analytical geometry in high school and did well. But that was back in '93-'94 when I was a junior. I know I'm rusty so I will probably need a good study guide, or I'll have to suffer through a semester long class. Any thoughts, suggestions, or opinions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Wade

Use CLEP or Uexcel for Sociology and ALEKS beginning algebra for the math. Check cram.com for soc flashcards. For the nursing exams get studygroup101, in my opinion they were better than TCN modules cause everything you could possibly need was included. Good luck :angrybird12:

I would suggest looking very closely at Excelsiors upcoming 2015 changes already eluded to here. On the surface, it appears you will have to take their class for every subject you need. The reason Excelsior works for me, and most, is that I can test out of all these $1200ish classes and move along quickly towards an ADN. I haven't looked into al the details as it doesn't apply to me, but it seems pretty counterintuitive.

Did you noticed the changes coming next year with excelsior nursing classes/exams? Please check and then plan,

jay

They were going to make everyone take a course not just test out. But that was not carried through and now there are three ways to earn credit. The credit by exam option is still there.

@BarbaraNM , Did you take the test thru TCN? I have been reading and researching for so long now and I am still very confused. The bad reviews about TCN are mostly about $. I am looking to get my prerequisite s out the way fast and stress free. Would you suggest I get the books from EBay and pay for the modules thru TCN? Are the test thru TCN really hard? Thank you in Advance:)

TCN is a publishing company.

It is essential to understand that TCN is merely an overpriced supplier of study materials. Nothing more. The ADN is issued through Excelsior College.....one does not 'test through TCN'. My suggestion is to contact EC directly, and purchase TCN study materials if available through EBay. Other textbooks and study materials are also helpful and always go by the content guide for every exam and purchase EC's practice tests. There is a great FAQ sticky at the top of the Excelsior College page and also some great Facebook pages. Good luck!! Keep working on those pre-reqs!
