Hey I was looking for a new thread on the people applying for the Texas Tech 2015 accelerated 2nd degree BSN program, specifically Austin, and couldn't find one so I thought I would start one. All the previous threads have been really helpful. Is there anyone applying for the Austin location?? Anyone already have their CNA or planning on getting it soon??

Just found this site and LOVED reading all that y'all have posted! I just got my email for an interview! Do any of y'all guys work? Im a bit worried about helping pay for the bills while in this program. My husband is definitely holding down the fort but its a lot for him. Any suggestions?

Also who will be ing the Austin area for clinicals? Would anyone be interested in getting together? My name is Sarah Delgado, you can look me up on Facebook and send me a message! I would love to get to know some of y'all prior to class starting and if I don't get accepted at least make a new friend. ;) Look forward to hearing from y'all!

I too just received an interview for Austin:)

I got an invite to interview for Austin too!

@raider5452: Do you know how many slots there were for interviews?

Are you a TTU alum?

Yes I am TTU alum. There were 12 time slots and the said 2-3 people go per time slot so I am guessing 24 to 30 people. But I was only able to see one day. I honestly don't know how many more days they will interview in Lubbock.

I also received an interview in Lubbock and was only able to see one day of time slots too.

I do not work currently but was trying to get a job at least until classes started. Especially so in the interview I can say I am currently working and getting experience.

I will be in the North Austin area for clinicals (if that's where I get assigned) and would love to get together sometime if we both get in! I wasn't sure which Facebook was yours. My name is Jenna Glendenning. I saw some several. Are you from Victoria, Texas?

I also got an interview for Austin! I am in Cedar Park. Anyone in this area or N. Austin??

@abhousde I worked in Cedar Park for a while! I live in North Austin closer to Round Rock by Parmer and Avery Ranch

Awesome! I'm at Brushy Creek (parmer and 1431). It would be so nice to have a close study partner!

Hi! I've been reading your posts tonight looking for hints on the essay and interview questions. I just found out I got an interview in Austin! I'm very excited but extremely nervous! My interview is on the 29th. I was trying to write my essay tonight but got writers block. :nailbiting:

Hey ya'll! Sorry, I've been MIA (NCLEX review session and start of FINAL semester!)

Congratulations to those who got interviews! I just thought I'd give my two cents about interviews since... Well, I interviewed and was accepted. :)

First of all, RELAX. The interviews are very informal, but you should come prepared and dressed the part! For all the ladies out there who might be interested, I wore a skirt suit with modest heels. There were other interviewees were dressed more casually, but I believe in the power of the first impression.

You will enter a small room and seated in front of a panel of three to four people. These people are the clinical faculty for the Austin area. The interview is actually quite informal. They will ask you a series of questions to gauge who you are and if you are a good fit for this program. They asked me about 6-7 questions and my interview was about 40 minutes. They're supposed to be 30, but they tend to go over. They tailor the questions to your application, so you may have different questions than the person down the hall. Here are a couple of things that I think you can expect:

Be prepared to talk about what made you pursue nursing, why you want to do it now, and why you want to do it in this program! Expect to discuss your prior educational and professional experiences. Be prepared to talk about any history of poor academic performance. Get ready to talk about your personal life. Seriously. They will ask you about your support system, your spouse, your boyfriend (they asked me about mine!), etc., and whether or not they will be able to help you get through this program. They might ask you about your family or if you have children. There has been a bit of contention about whether or not you should mention if you have children. If you do choose to mention this, be prepared to answer questions about childcare or other support you have available. Be prepared to talk about what area of nursing you are interested in and whether or not you plan to stay in Austin after graduating (obvious answer: say YES!). They will likely ask you about your experience with online classes, if you think you're an independent learner, and why you think you are.

The bottom line is this: They wanted to see if you can handle this program. Do you have positively trending academic performance, clinical experience, a good support system, and signs/symptoms of the ability to navigate through this program by yourself (essentially)?

Again, the process is very informal and they are very nice. They want to get to know you! Be yourself. Be honest. Good luck!
