I’m not sure if it’s too early to start this thread, but anyone on here planning on applying to Texas Tech’s Second Degree program in May?
@Nurse54 Yesterday was the deadline to accept or decline for the first round of offers, so I would expect another wave to go out this week. I don’t know much about how the wait list works but I’ve heard from current students that there have been students accepted as late as a couple of weeks before the program starts. It just depends on if someone drops out and opens up a spot!

I spoke to someone at the school a day after initial acceptances went out. They said that was all and there would only be seats open up if someone decided to decline. Waitlist and denials should be coming out sometime this week or next.
Also this is just my observation, but does anyone know how to view or obtain the demographic breakdown of the candidates that are accepted? I am going to be honest and say that based on what I have seen as far as accepted students go, there doesn't seem to be much diversity, and many of the non-academic admissions considerations don't seem to be common amongst those accepted either.
I assumed that the accepted applicants would be a variety of student with different backgrounds. From the looks of it, the majority of accepted student are caucasian females, so I am left wondering what the applicant pool looked like and what the accepted applicant pool ended up looking like? It is important for all students to have had a fair shake, it is also important to follow up. It is extremely important for TTUHSC to follow through and honor their commitment of seeking well rounded candidates, who are holistically evaluated.

Hi there! I may be able to provide some insight. I'll be in the 2021 group and have met over half of those accepted (virtually for now). From what I have seen, we have incredible diversity. There are females and males, some coming from the military, teaching, and business world. Some have healthcare experience, others do not at all. There are also parents in the mix!
There are students represented from so many nationalities - Asian, Middle Eastern, African, Hispanic, and some moving from other states (Alaksa!) to come to the program. And speaking for myself, there is not an over emphasis on grades - they truly seem to take your whole story (and largely the interview) into account. You may be able to request an actual breakdown of the demographics from the School of Nursing - I am sure they have something like that on hand! I hope that helps. ?

Hi there! I was accepted and I think I have met around 18 members of the cohort so far I can say that the “caucasian female” is actually the minority in my cohort. We have great diversity whether its race, age, career background, family status, etc. I was actually very impressed with how well rounded our group is. If you do plan to reapply for next yr and you plan on asking about who got accepted this year I would be delicate in your approach. I understand it is disheartening to have not been accepted but hopefully some insight to what we have seen as far as demographics helps you.
@Spaceandtime I echo what @HannahRM said - I would contact the school of nursing for an actual breakdown if you’re interested! That said, I can also speak to the 2021 breakdown a little bit. I’m not sure which cohort HannahRM is in, but I was accepted to the Austin 2021 cohort and in our facebook group of 18, only a handful are Caucasian female (myself being one of them). Our group seems to be very diverse, both racially and with varying backgrounds and life stages. I know there is at least a 13 year age gap between some of the oldest and youngest in our group.
