Texas State University Fall 2016

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone!! I know it may be a little early to start this thread for the Fall-16 Admissions into the SON @ TXST. The application Deadline is quickly approaching and I thought I'd start this. I am super nervous because I always hear that getting into nursing school is a difficult process. This will be my first time applying into any nursing school.

My Current Stats :

Overall GPA : 3.67

Science GPA : 3.61

I am taking my TEAS V in Jan a week before the application deadline. I know that is pushing it kind of close.

Just a word of warning for anyone who doesn't know- You can't take 11 week courses over summer or the 2nd 6 week summer session. I confirmed with admissions and advising that the grades don't get to Texas State until after the Fall semester starts and they will not let you start without everything in. It may be common knowledge that I just missed, but just in case I wanted to let y'all know

I just got off the phone with admissions and spoke with 2 people (one from admissions and one from retention) who stated that the 6 week is NOT required. They recommended the 6 week course so you can have a break before starting the rigorous nursing program but you can bring documentation of your grades from the 11 week course just as easily. Electronic transcripts usually are received with in 3 days. Not sure who you spoke to?

Hi There,

I have an email from the nursing program adviser stating:

"Applicants that are conditionally admitted to our program must meet all conditions of admission before attending nursing Day One on August 25. This means that all grades for all prerequisite courses must be on the student's academic record before that date. This is not possible with a summer session that ends that late."

I had originally heard from a friend about the issue with long summer classes, who was told at one of the information sessions for the nursing program. She said they were very explicit at the session that you were not able to take 11 week classes, and they would affect you ability to start the program. After she told me, I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with admissions and emailed back and forth with Sheryl, all of which ended up confirming that fact that because your transcript will not be evaluated in time (even if you hand deliver) you will not meet the criteria to begin the program. It is up to you as to whether or not you want to risk it, but I ended up cramming an extra class into this semester to avoid being denied entry at the last minute.

WOW! That is so different then what they said on the phone and at my info session (which was a year ago)! Thank you sharing that info!

To be honest I have been given lots of conflicting information on many things from them, and have previously had to email and basically say, "I want something in writing to hold you accountable for". It is possible she was mistaken, or they gave me wrong information, but to me its just not worth risking /:

On a happier note, did anyone else get their background check email?

I will definitely be taking the shorter summer school then, better safe than sorry! Thank you so much for sharing!

Did you get your background check email on your TXST email or your personal email?

It came to my personal email :)

I found the same to be true about conflicting info.

I have not received the background check email. I'll be on the lookout!

No background check e-mail for me either… :(

I receieved the background check email today. If it means anything, my last inital is towards the end of the alphabet and I turned in my application the day before it was due (not sure if they are sending these out w/ any rhyme or reason).

Well thats good news! My last name starts with T, are you before or after T?

I know the background check e-mails aren't a deciding factor in acceptance or not but it sure would make me feel better to get one.... :) BEST of luck to every one were finally in the month we will find out.

I'm U. But, yeah, it specificially says in the email that this has nothing to do w/ admission status and that we'll receive a letter at the end of March w/ a status of a) conditionally admitted b) waiting list or c) not admitted.

I haven't received that email yet, and I am hoping it is because my application was processed late. That would be due to me applying for the wrong semester -_-
