West Coast University DALLAS 2018 NEED INFO

U.S.A. Texas

Hello! I am considering West Coast University for the BSN program. I am having a difficult time finding anyone in the Fort Worth area that has even heard of this place. I want to know how the hospitals feel about this school. I've heard some places wont even hire from Dallas career colleges. I am a military spouse and have very limited time in one location. I want to be an oncology nurse but am very concerned about credits not transferring out of this school. Also, if the accreditation is from the west coast, will I get a job on the east coast? So many questions, so little time! Haha! Any other military members have any experience here?? Any WCU graduates here that can answer some more questions? :)

Yes, childcare has been one of my biggest concerns, especially since my husband is active duty. I went to WCU today and I think it went pretty well. They have all my transcripts and are reviewing my financial aid available. The FA guy has worked with a lot of military and says that I should be able to finish my degree with very little amount in loans. I am assuming the majority of the loans I take out will be for childcare. I learned today that 61% of qualified students that enrolled actually graduate. This makes me soooooooooooo nervous!!

Do you think you'll be around long enough to finish the program? Also, I should add that while each class meets once a week, if you have two classes, you'll be in Dallas twice a week because it's not guaranteed those classes will meet on the same day. For example, you could have microbiology lecture Wednesday from 7-12 then have the lab Friday from 7-11. And if you had another class like Philosophy, you'd have that class on Tuesday's from 7-12. So you'd be on campus 3 days a week, but you'd only come to each class once a week. Also, don't worry about being kicked out. I've seen people fail out, but again, those are people who either just had a fundamental issue understanding the content, or they thought that because the school is expensive, they were buying a degree so they didn't have to try. WCU also allows you to retake a failed nursing course once before dismissing you academically for failure, which is more than a lot of other programs. Definitely stop by, take a tour, see what they have to say! Please don't hesitate to ask me anything. I don't mind helping if I can.

Just reading in on your posts. I know one girl who just graduated from the program and one girl who is in there now. I applied in 2016 but I still had two prerequisites that I wanted to finish before I re-enrolled. Tried to re-enroll 3 times and always bailed out. But hopefully once I finish this stats class in first part of summer I will re-enroll. I really like the feel of WCU. They will have a night program? That's great! If you could PM more information about this, that would be great. Thank you!!!

Hi! Yes they do have an evening and weekend program. This is the first semester they've done it (Starts 4/2/18). I turned in my application but I am nervous about driving all the way back from Dallas at 11pm then having to get up with my littles by 6am. And the idea of driving 2 hours in the dark/snow/rain... ugh! I wish it was closer to Fort Worth. I have an appointment with them this week to go over financial aid and talk to registar about classes that will transfer. Really that's going to make or break it. If they say I have to take even 1 class over again, I'm out. I can do that with .

I went to the info session on this past Thursday, and looks like I will be starting with the class on April 2 (BSN weekend/evening option). I'm excited but I still have much paperwork I still have to sign. It's definitely worth it in the end. I think if you're able to make the drive, you should do it. I see it all the time people travel as much 2-3 hours to their nursing programs. If its feasible for you, I say go for it!

Well congratulations on starting! I looked into what weekend/evening option but decided I didn't want to switch. Lol. And I totally agree about the driving. I know people who drive from West of Fort Worth to come to class. And while you can't pick your classes directly, if you want to take a different class because it maybe meets on a day or time that works better for you (or if you wanted to switch to the online version), the registrar is super nice, and she's always happy to go over the options with you. Good luck to everyone!

That's awesome! Congratulations! I am probably going to start the June 11 session. Night and weekend also. I started to look at TCU here in Fort Worth but they do not have a night and weekend option and I need to get this ball rolling! If I wasn't in class right now I would totally start 4/2.

Thank you for your help! They did end up taking all my transfer credits. Now its just up to me to figure out my schedule.

I start 4/2 at West Coast! All my classes transferred except one (Stats) and that's because I haven't taken it yet but will be taking at DCCCD and plus I had College Algebra but I'm taking that at WC. Other than that it doesn't change my end date. So I'm excited!!! I still have to finish up my financial aid and get my final schedule but I'm totally in. Hopefully, I'll see you there , lv2bakc :)

I wanted to know when do you start wearing your nursing scrubs? I know when you're taking your prerequisites, you don't but I heard when you start nursing core that's when you wear them? Not sure but just curious! Thanks!

Did you go to orientation yesterday? I think I'm going to be able to start 4/2 also. Just trying to figure out FA stuff right now.

Howdy! This is actually my first post on here. I'm currently a student at WCU, so hopefully I can answer some questions for you. In terms of accreditation, WCU is CCNE accredited for nursing and regionally accredited by the WASC for the general education classes they offer. The regional accreditation will come in handy for grad school. Given the regional accreditation, I wouldn't really classify WCU as a career college. DNI and Concorde (which both have abysmal NCLEX pass rates) are two career colleges that offer nursing whose programs are neither regionally accredited (which usually means their credits won't transfer), nor are they accredited by the ACEN or CCNE. In terms of how WCU grads are received, I haven't heard anyone complain of not being able to find a job. As a matter of fact, I've been there since last June and each term has had a 98-100% employment rate. And the program has rotations through several major hospitals in the area like the VA, Children's, Parkland, etc...If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me. I've lurked here a long time, so I know that I won't be able to reply to a PM just yet, but feel free to ask away on this post. I'll try to help if I can.

Thanks for all of your advice! I went to orientation yesterday. Looks like I will be starting soon. :)
