Specializes in None yet.

I'm not a nurse (yet) but I work with quite a few Public Health Nurses. I am a Health Educator for the county health department that I live in, and our public health nurses perform numerous tasks, such as health screening and assessment services. They also initiate treatments and/or immunizations for each approved protocol, and provide education and counseling to patients and other professionals. They work in various divisions within our health department, such as TB, Preventive Health, and HIV/STD. Hope this helps..

Where did you attend to get your school nurse certificate? I haven't found any schools in the fort worth area yet. And I was told that there isn't any additional schooling to become a school nurse in texas. In california, you had to attend school for another year to receive a school nurse certificate

By the way, what is the salary like?

I just got a GREAT public health job working for the Los Angeles County Office of Women's Health. Search for government jobs first. Also, many hospitals need a public health nurse in thier community outreach department. I worked in a dept like that when I was in nursing school and loved it.

I'm just a little over a year out of nursing school and feel soooo lucky to have found my nitch.
