I really appreciate your advice!!! I was reading the entire chapters, and alot of the material I studied wasn't even on the test! Our blueprint was extremely vague and our instructor doesn't even tell us what chapter she's in or page numbers... I just think that I didn't study properly because the blueprints last semester broke it down really well. I just bought a new NCLEX book that actually has ante, L&D, and post-partum. Hopefully that will help me. Honestly, how often do you study?

Brianna

Brie, I think all of the information we need to know lies in lecture and the slides. I didn't read one single page. I just listened to lecture over and over again and reviewed the slides a little bit (I'm going to review them more next time now that I know). It's all just recommended reading and I may read it between tests. I felt the reading last semester was wasteful to me as well so that's when I stopped doing it and my grades increased..slightly.

Thanks... I usually have 3 days that I can study for long periods of time because I have to work to remain in the my program. Part-time is 2 days a week, so I work 2 12's on Sat and Sun. I may have a little time to review my notes on the days that I work, but not much. I'm changing how I'm studying and what I'm studying so hopefully that will work!

Working is extremely tough. I am working 20 hours a week and pulling my hair out of my head. I can imagine that 4 extra hours is a killer. You can do it though. Think of how far you've come.

I'm not even shooting for As anymore lol. I am satisfied with a B and would probably have a heart attack if I got an A. It's so amazing how my perspective has changed with that....

Brie, I'm sorry you're upset. I hope you have a better week next week.

I totally agree... I'm just trying to survive.

You didn't even open the book? I didn't read last semester, so when I heard how difficult this semester was going to be, I started reading! Grrrrr.... I should have just stuck to my original plan!! Did you do any practice questions and if so from where? Thanks for the input... it's very helpful!

I know that we all have the same test, but do we all have the same powerpoints???

Yes, I decided that reading was just bogging me down with everything else we are expected to do and I stopped doing it. I do read something if I don't quite understand the concept but I limit it to only that. I am wondering if we have the same powerpoints? I would share mine if you wanted to compare. Do you think we have the same test? I was thinking they were all different.

I do the medspub questions and I use the Saunders NCLEX questions book also. My teacher keeps recommending the site: http://www.prenhall.com She says if we had answered those questions we would have known some of the questions on the test because they were very similiar...I'll try it for this next test...what could it hurt? I do try and do at least 200 questions before each exam and that helps a lot too but I know you do that as well. It seems like we prepare the same way but I just don't read everything.

There must be some minor differences. By the way, NLC slides are on eCampus. I think every 2nd semester student can see them. It's under NLC and power points.

Brianna,

I was hoping that was the book you were talking about. I bought that book this summer. I know you are upset about your test grade but don't be too hard on yourself. You made all A's last semester and was the only one in this group that did (that I am aware of). Keep your chin up Brianna and don't give up!

Amy

It's called Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination, 3rd edition; by Linda Anne Silvestri. It's blueish purple and you can buy it at the college store in Arlington. I was told that you cannot find it a Barnes and Nobles, but it is on Amazon. I paid $48 for it and I feel that it is well worth it so far! There are a couple of people in my class that failed last semester (due to the pharm test) and they recommended this book.

Brianna

Allison,

Have you asked this girl what her study method is? Could you ask her and share with the rest of us? It would be nice to know ANYTHING that might help us all get through the program. Knowledge is power!

Amy

I got an 84 and the highest was a 90 which was a girl who always made nothing lower than a 96 last semester. Our class average was 73 which was higher than I thought it was going to be based on what other people told me they made.

Hi you 2nd semester-ers!

I'm in 1st semester and can feel your pain on test 1. I read all the chapters did all the questions at the end of the chapters, did Meds Pub, did the study guide for most chapters, did the blueprint - and I made an 80 (which is a "C")!!! I felt so confident of the material and the understanding that I had of it when I went in. I even felt confident when I pushed the button to say "done" and submit my test to be graded. I knew I had probably missed a few - but not 10!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the highest grade in our class was a 92, but I don't know the class average. Needless to say I'm being humbled and maybe I should thank my lucky stars that I passed. However, it is so frustrating to do all the work that I did and ignore my family and housework for a "C". To add to the frustration, it seems the people who scored the highest didn't really study much - how does that work!!!!! I think I'm also terrified that if I made a "C" on the 1st test and I've heard that it gets harder - then what on earth will I make on the next one(s)!

Should I quit reading?!?!?!?! It seems like the ones with the highest grades are the auditory learners - and I'm not one of them!!! I learn by writing, reading and seeing - visual! However, I absolutely cannot learn anything from the "visualness" of the slides. :( :( :(

Sorry to rant on your site - I know we have our own for the Fall group. I think we have the same lecture instructor (at ECC), so I thought maybe you guys would have some advice.
