i know some of us have received our letters so i was wondering who else i will be making this journey with for the next 2 years.
my name is allison shaffer and it's nice to meet you. i know we will all be close because it's a small group. it would be nice to get to know some of you before november 17. :)
So, I had my SQ checkoff today. I got 95 because I didn't tell the pt his blood sugar before giving insulin - according to my instructor. Well, I did tell the pt his blood sugar before giving insulin, but I was so worried about the time limit that I started speaking fast. I think I even started mumbling. So I think the instructor didn't understand everything. I know it's my fault so I take the 95. :wink2:
On the other hand I can see my lecture grade on eCampus now. It's actually 92 with a 78 class average. I was expecting around 84. So now I wonder if my lecture instructor made a typo. :uhoh21:

95 is great, sorry about the mix up with the insulin levels.

Wow... you did good girl!!! She did go over the exam, but alot of us disagreed and had validations. I don't know what's going to happen... So what's your study secret/method????
Brianna

I start with the blueprint then study the lecture slides, read relevant info in textbooks (not the whole chapter), listen to lecture tapes again, and do as many relevant NCLEX questions as I can. Our 2nd semester instructor likes to stress things during lectures that may show up in test so I pay attention during lectures. But we had only 1 test yet, I am sure I won't be this lucky all the time.
Let us know what happens with your exam.

I really appreciate your advice!!! I was reading the entire chapters, and alot of the material I studied wasn't even on the test! Our blueprint was extremely vague and our instructor doesn't even tell us what chapter she's in or page numbers... I just think that I didn't study properly because the blueprints last semester broke it down really well. I just bought a new NCLEX book that actually has ante, L&D, and post-partum. Hopefully that will help me. Honestly, how often do you study?
Brianna
Brianna,
Do you mind sharing the name of the book that everyone says is really good to study from?
Amy
Yes... we got our grades today because our instructor is out of town for the rest of the week. I did about 250 practice questions, used the HESI book, and meds pub. There were alot of questions on meds pub... maybe ours is different from y'alls. I just bought a new book today that every says is really good to study from. The blueprint that we got is the same one they gave to NL and ECC.. alot of stuff has changed this semester. I'm trying to decide if I should drop and just start this semester over...Brianna
Katie,
That's great!

I try to study every day but when I have something important going on, like a checkoff or careplans that due on the next day I don't study at all. But I do study a lot on the weekends. Maybe 4-5 hours/day. I try to organize and prioritize my time. That's all. :wink2:

Thanks... I usually have 3 days that I can study for long periods of time because I have to work to remain in the my program. Part-time is 2 days a week, so I work 2 12's on Sat and Sun. I may have a little time to review my notes on the days that I work, but not much. I'm changing how I'm studying and what I'm studying so hopefully that will work!

It's called Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination, 3rd edition; by Linda Anne Silvestri. It's blueish purple and you can buy it at the college store in Arlington. I was told that you cannot find it a Barnes and Nobles, but it is on Amazon. I paid $48 for it and I feel that it is well worth it so far! There are a couple of people in my class that failed last semester (due to the pharm test) and they recommended this book.

Hey everyone.
Good job Katie on test 1!!!!! I keep hearing that test 1 is the hardest soooo let's hope that's somewhat true.
I got an 84 and the highest was a 90 which was a girl who always made nothing lower than a 96 last semester. Our class average was 73 which was higher than I thought it was going to be based on what other people told me they made.
I'm not even shooting for As anymore lol. I am satisfied with a B and would probably have a heart attack if I got an A. It's so amazing how my perspective has changed with that....
Brie, I'm sorry you're upset. I hope you have a better week next week.

Brie, will you have a test review in class? If so it should help you see what went wrong. I know that you've always been a great student. I am sending you my :icon_hug: .
