Isn't that place wonderful?! The staff out there is just awesome...every single last person out there is amazing. It was very different than what I was expecting as well...very pleasantly surprised. The ECT thing is wild isn't it? Did you guys talk to that phenomenal doctor who does them? He's always willing to teach and he is so knowledgeable. Are you out there tomorrow? I go for my last day and I really am sad to leave. I wish we had more psych :( I'm glad you had such a good day!!!!! :D

We had a female doc doing it. She talked to us a lot during the procedure. When the first pt jerked a little bit we all looked scared. And I think some of us jumped back a step. So she said that she was more worried about us than the pt. :lol2: She let us stay to observe more and see a typical ECT. We go back next week for two days.

Sounds interesting....

So...is the pt awake during the ECT? Are they given pain meds?

I guess I could look it up, but y'all should know. :lol2:

The procedure takes about 5 minutes and they are sleeping. They have IV access but they are in their own clothes. They can have pain meds if they know that they have headaches after it's done. I think most of them get muscle relaxant and drugs to go to sleep only. Correct me if I am wrong. They can do it as an outpatient procedure. It's neat. I would loved to do more psych clinical and less medsurg. ;) Katie

By the way we had 2 recruiters from Methodist at NLC today giving us free lunch and info on their internships. It looks excellent. If anyone wants more details let me know.

For some people with depression this is the only way to function in society. We could talk to one of the pt there and she said that this was the only way she could finish college. Katie

Katie-

I am watching a show on the History channel about Budapest, Hungary. Is your hometown around there? Just curious....it's really interesting how they have an underground hospital from WWII!!

My hometown is about 2 hours from Budapest but I know the city well. Except that I have never been to this underground hospital. I guess it's not open to the public. I should watch more History Channel. :lol2:

Have you started regular clinicals? How do you like lectures? I like the instructor but I have found her lectures boring. I think I have senoritis. ;)

So, how much money, above and beyond tuition, are y'all shoveling out this semester?

We had to buy the management book and online code around $80. NCLEX fees around $200, fingerprinting around $10, the usual insurance, medspub, and other things that I don't remember now. :uhoh21:

My scholarship won't cover all the tuition next semester, not to mention all the other stuff.

(Just got a balance....six hundred something left....)

Oh, yes, and you will need to buy a school pin :studyowl:. There may be some expenses with graduation party :biere:and there might be a licensing fee too :nurse:. The more I remember the more expensive it gets. Katie
