Dallas area hospitals

I know the job market is tough for a new grad, but how bad is it? I see some position here and there for a new grad with no experience. Also i see methodist has lots of opening just a minimum of 6 months experience. Do they hire new grads at methodist without experience, maybe if you did you preceptorship for school in that particular area of interest? Just trying to figure out if moving to dallas as a new RN would be okay. I still have 1 year left of school, but am trying to plan ahead.

Your luck might be better than mine. If you feel that you have nothing to lose, go ahead and make the move to the Dallas area.

I'm a newer RN with more than four years of LVN experience, and I have not been able to get hired onto any of the major hospital systems in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I applied to the Methodist Hospital system, but received an email from the recruiter that I didn't meet their qualifications. I've also applied at the HCA Hospitals (Plaza Medical Center, Medical Center of Arlington, etc.), and they outright said that I didn't have the experience that they were seeking. I've also applied at JPS, Weatherford Regional, UT Southwestern, Kindred, Lifecare, Global, Select Specialty Hospital, Vibra Specialty Hospital, and multiple others. I was granted an interview with UT Southwestern for a med/surg new grad internship position at their St. Paul campus, but was not offered the job.

For now, I am working part-time at a nursing home and PRN at a small rehabilitation hospital. However, my main reason for becoming an RN was to open more doors and attain some acute care hospital experience. I suppose that patience is a virtue.

I moved from the midwest to work at UT. Best decision ever! Great hospital and learning institution. One of the highest paying hospitals in DFW for new grads.

I started at Methodist last year as a new grad. I did notice that they still had internships this year but there where not as many as last year. They start posting positions in January or February for the May grads. I have a friend that just interviewed last week as a new grad, but it was not a formal internship. Good luck!!

Is it easier to get a job with a BSN vs ASN?

I graduated in May, passed boards in June. I feel like I applied to every single new grad position I saw in Dallas and surrounding cities, and even positions that didn't specify 1yr experience required. I mostly got rejection letters if I even heard from the hospital after applying.

I ended up getting a job outside the metroplex in August without any problem, and after I was hired, I had around 3 call backs from smaller hospitals in central TX. Maybe things will be different in a year, but I don't really see that happening.

I've been a rn for 6 years and a medic for the same. If I'm having a hard time finding fulltime Er work....I can't imagine how it is for the new grads.
