Texas nursing Jobs

Published

Hello...Does anyone know if there is going to be any good prospects of finding a LPN job in Texas? I am an LPN student and my last semester is coming up here:D! I am currently holding a GPA of 3.0 without even studying to hard and juggling being a full time single mom with 4 children one is a high need.

I plan on upping my GPA to a 4.0 with more stringent studying. I want to move to Texas because of the climate ...my son will need a pool for everyday use and to be able to be outdoors a lot...he has NVLD a type of autism and he needs the stimuli winter cant offer here...its too cold and a pool is very therapeutic for him i have found. Texas is a sister state to mine license wise.

Any good news in Texas???

I've heard the border states are hiring. Are you any chance bilingual?

HI!

I am looking into the workforce out there by all of you in Texas...what is the prospect for me to get a job as a new LPN there in Texas after i get my license...I'm going into my last semester here:yeah:...I'm currently holding a GPA of 3.0...I plan on raising it this last semester though:rolleyes:!

What should I do to make me more marketable while I'm in school and afterwards hunting for a job??? The job market here stinks even trying to get an CNA job is a far stretch and my CNA license has expired :crying2:!I am going to try and get a job as a volunteer in any health setting around here if possible..I will be looking next week...

It snows in North Texas (Dallas, Fort Worth, Wichita Falls) and the Texas Panhandle (Amarillo, Lubbock). It might be mild snow, but it is snow.

LOL..I loathe snow...slows u down for work ,causes snow days for kids, then u have to find some one to watch them and it throws ur whole schedule off...not to mention i cant tolerate the cold! I have a child with NVLD and he need sas much consistency in his life as possible at least let the seasons be LOL!

Been studying my last semester med terminology lately and studying spanish on my own of late as well as studying my ATI books to help with NCLEX after Im done here LOL...no jobs here give me time to study LOL!

Do you think letters of recommendation form my instructors will help me land a job in Texas...Im shooting for Austin or Houston ...Ill be fresh and new but im also 42 so I have a lot of maturity behind me and actual knowledge of the health system thru my sons health difficulties ...two have had problems for many yrs.

While it may not snow much, we do get freezes in the winter. December - February we get temperatures ranging from 30s to 80s in the same week, sometimes same day! This last winter we had snow one day and the next day it was warm and sunny. Then in Spring we get hot days with chilly nights. Last summer we had temperatures as high as 112! Texas weather is a pain. This isn't California.

A LOT of people have been relocating to Texas, and it's getting really hard to find jobs in general. I graduated May 2009 with a non-nursing Bachelor's degree, and I have yet to find a job in Austin that pays well. Unless you have a tech degree, Austin is a hard place to find a job that will pay you a living wage to meet the costs of living. Austin is a college town over-saturated with educated people who don't want to leave (like me). I'm not sure about Houston, but it's probably the same.

I would suggest West Texas, like Midland-Odessa area. It's not as desirable as Austin, Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio, but you'd probably get paid better. Or check out Lubbock. Texas Tech has a medical school, so I'm sure there would be work available in that area.

I'm from the Rio Grande Valley, and unless you speak Spanish fluently (and are able to pick up the colloquial "spanglish" we speak), it will be very hard to move to the border. There are some good schools in McAllen, Edinburg, and Harlingen, but I think the transition would be rough on your kids, moving to a pre-dominantly Hispanic area. I will NEVER return to the valley to work, but I have friends who never want to leave it. It honestly feels like a different country.

I'm not familiar with East Texas, so I can't help you there. Just know that Texas is a very large state that has regions with VERY different cultures.

Just do your research before choosing where to move to. Good luck!

Thanks for the information:)...I am studying a lot of Spanish at the moment on my own and as long as theres a job for me and a school for my son who has NVLD we are good to go and yes I am researching all of Texas thats where the special schools are for my son too..alot of the other states dont have much and calif is not a sister state with the license i would get here...it wont travel... Texas is it... i want to ideally move to southern Texas if at all possible.:redpinkheMy son thrives in warm weather as id o as well!

You'll still have to endorse your original license into Texas, regardless of whether you're coming from a compact state or "sister" state. There's no way of getting around the process of endorsing your original nursing license into your new home state. Once you move to Texas, you can work using your original licensure for approximately 30 days. I suggest that you obtain a Texas license before you move so as to save time.
