Texas LVNS doing Excelsior College

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am wondering if there are any Texas nurses doing the EC program or any nurses that have graduated from the program? I have been doing some research and am very confused. I have 6 credits I need to do before starting the actual nursing classes. Would you suggest doing those through EC or another school. I have been an office nurse for 20 years and before that 10 years of hospital. I am sure I want to pursue this goal, but am very nervous.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Well Barbara I Am Not In Texas But I Just Finished The Program And I Live In Oklahoma Right Now Hoping To Move To Texas When My Husband Retires. The Program Is Definetly Doable. The Classes That You Do Not Have You Can Pretty Much Take Them Anywhere (cost?). They Will Take Them Just Check With Them But They Took Classes That I Had Taken Almost 9 Years Earlier.

oh check out yahoo groups there are tons of info on the exxcelsior students, rn groups through excelsior that has all the info for the tests and cpne. i used every bit of the info from fellow students who had gone through and left tips it helped me pass. good luck . there are about 5-10 groups on yahoo groups dedicated to excelsior programs for adn

I wanted to say the same thing but didn't want to offend anyone. It also gives off a "shouting" attitude.

Just a note if you are thinking about EC...I finished the academic (nursing) portion in 3 months (2/2007-5/2007)and WAS CPNE eligible. I had to put off the test until this summer. Apparently the requirements changed, I found out today I will have to take 5 MORE courses to become eligible again!!I will probably go another route since this will cost an additional 4-5 thousand and everything hinges on a weekend. Good luck and best wishes to all who taking the CPNE soon!

I would discourage you from dealing with Excelsior. The concept is this: does the casino care if you win? of course not, nor does Excelsior care if you pass. They will profit more if you fail tests and continue to pay more to retest.

Excelsior credits will be very hard to transfer. Look at their courses and show yourself there is no pedi, pharmacology, etc. If you fail or drop out you may find yourself with nursing credits that colleges can't accept.

I would tell you that nursing school is a full time endeavor. It is possible to go to school, work at a job you may not like or want while your in school, but if you want to be an RN, you can do it.

Specializes in LTC, Pedi LTC, EMS.

I've known several who have completed the EC program and now have RN behind their names......I have personally completed all but the NCLEX. Believe me, the EC staff at my CPNE WANTED us to pass! I think 5 of the 6 of us passed!

Congratulations on passing:up:! I plan on talking to EC (again) to make sure I am getting the right info. I hope to be taking the CPNE soon. Where did you take your CPNE? Thanks for the info.

I did my LVN-RN through EC.I graduated in 2005.Did my CPNE in Amarillo. It was stressful.EC is recognized.Never had a had time getting a job.Its doable.

If you use this reasoning then it would be the same for any college...they all get money when you have to retake classes and don't pass.

Or am I missing something in your point?

Thanks for this info...I just enrolled in Excelsior and would like to be finished with the concepts by June 2009...is that doable and realistic?
