Texas LVNS doing Excelsior College
I would discourage you from dealing with Excelsior. The concept is this: does the casino care if you win? of course not, nor does Excelsior care if you pass. They will profit more if you fail tests and continue to pay more to retest. Excelsior credits will be very hard to transfer. Look at their courses and show yourself there is no pedi, pharmacology, etc. If you fail or drop out you may find yourself with nursing credits that colleges can't accept. I would tell you that nursing school is a full time endeavor. It is possible to go to school, work at a job you may not like or want while your in school, but if you want to be an RN, you can do it.

Just finished Excelsior
I am sorry that I ever did Excelsior. I took my CPNE in Dallas 3 times. The CPNE staff at Medical Center was horrible. I saw one person pass. I think that its a big game for them to fail people.

ER bashing...where is the love??
Maybe your triage nurse just finished working their neighbors child in trauma arrest and just were quite in the mood for something that seemed so trivial. You don't know where people are coming from mentally or emotionally. Everyone comes to ER wit the attitude that they left biscuits in the oven and can't beleive how long it takes to get in & out. Sorry that your kidney stone had to wait for te airway emergencies that rolled in afterwards.

ER bashing...where is the love??
As an ER nurse I do what I can to help my floor nurse. I send patients up clean & with all the admit orders done that can be done. However, our ER is busy and we ave very little to no UAP's. I can only do what I can do. We ave no control on how many patients roll into our hall way at inconvenient times so they should know how we feel when they get an admit.

RN intubation in ED?
intubating in the hosptal is not just about performing a skill. Consider... After you intubate are you ready for the respnsibility of the ventilator settings? Will you read the x-ray to confirm the tube posistion is optimal? What if the patients respiratory status doesn't improve after you intubate? who will mangae & be responsible for the sedation/anesthesia? I was a paramedic/firefighter 17 years before I became an RN this year. Passing a tube on a call is far more easier than the management of it for hours in the ER. Just because you have ET tube taped down dosen't mean the patient is safe.
