RN to EMT-P bridge
Hello how are you? I know this may sound a little weird but I am looking to see if anyone knows how to bridge from an RN to an EMT-P. I am in texas and I know there are some courses out there that you can do. I am an emergency room NG and want to get back to my roots with the vol fd in my area and need to get certified. If anyone could help I would be grateful. Thanks ryoung0302

Rediculous NC3 nerves
hey how are you? Just to let you know I just took NC 3 and it was not all that hard. I use the Chancellor's study guides and they pretty much outline what you need to know. I am not sure if anyone else has used them, but I think they are extremely helpful. Also if you are worried you should go ahead and take the practice exam that EC offers. I did that to make sure that I was ready and it was a 60 dollars well spent. Ryoung

Intoxicated- does it mean incompetent?
Depends on the patient, just like if you are stopped for a DWI, you can be under the legal limit and still be impaired. We constantly tell our teens to be responsible and the dangers of drinking since it impairs your judgement, I think that the same should go for our patients. Now the problem would occur, do you withhold treatment or not if the patient is refusing due to being an angry drunk. That is one that we have pondered many a time, and sometimes have even had the police come and get them and take them to the county hospital. That always seems to do the trick when someone has a horrible attitude to the staff.

Collecting co-pays at the ED registration desk.
This goes to Dixielee, you are saying it perfect, You dont know how many times I have asked patients that same question. Most of the time they look at me like I am crazy, but then again you have to be to work in most ERs. To TlhRNed, I understand where you are cmoing from, but you have to understand how much money is lost by people not paying their copays. I have been working in an ED for the 8 years and we have a standing rule that upon discharge the chart is walked either by a nurse or tech to the discharge desk and they are called up there to recieve all their paperwork. This has really increased our copayments, and actually helped us to make budget a couple of times. I am in a big city so most of the time we are used as a doctors office when people cant see their PCP. It has nothing to do with being rude to the patient, but you have to get somemoney somewhere. Hope you are able to get it all worked out.

Need Advice On The Excelsior Program
Hey how are you? I am currently taking EC test and spoke with them not even two days ago about the way for the CPNE. As of now it is 5-7 months, so there is no way that you can finish in a short amount of time. I also agree with what someone else said about waiting. I have found the test to be pretty tough, I had to retake one because of the way that I was studying for them. Since then I have had all A's and B's. If you have no experience it could be a good thing and a bad thing since you have not picked up on any of the bad habits most of us might have. I worked in an ER as a paramedic for the last 7 years and have had a hard time going back to theory since it does not always correspond to what you would actually do. My suggestion is that you make the decision for yourself. You can take the first two test with only paying for the test, and then go from there. I also reccommend buying some sort of study guide that is out there. I have been using Chancellor's and I have found them to be fairly accurate with the infromation. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

any medics in excelsior?
Hey I am also a medic, ex military and 4 years in an ED. If you need any help, feel free to ask. I am also going through the program right now. I found the Chancellor's study guides to be extremely helpful in studying, plus it cut down on study time. Like I said if you need anything just give me a holler. [email protected]

Any Good Deals on Books?
I am going through the excelsior program and have the chancellor's study guides if you are interested. I am not trying to make a killing just get some of what I paid back. I have made A's on the test that I used these so they are very helpful. If interested just email me at [email protected] and I will reply to you as soon as I can. These usually run 295 a book so they are well worth it.

do we NEED all these books? (excelsior)
Hey just to let you klnow, I only bought study guides through chancellor's and had no problems with any of the test. So it is up to your knowledge base that you already have. I know alot of people in here are LVN's doing the transition, but I am an Medic from the military and it has not been that hard of a program for me. So it is really just up to you and what you already know.
