I currently go to school for public health with a minor in mental health services. I plan on going back to school to get my bsn in nursing. Are applicants who have previous degrees looked over when hiring?

Why would you be looked over? If you meet the qualifications, with an RN degree you'd be the same. However- most nurses who have other degrees are surprised to find that they are still viewed as JUST a new grad... they don't get special treatment for other degrees.
However- I would think with mental health they would take that into consideration. I wish Ihad more training in mental health many days!

My close friend has two previous degrees that are unrelated to nursing. Her non-nursing degrees have neither helped or hindered her career.
Keep in mind that nursing has traditionally attracted many second-career folks who have prior education and/or training in another line of work. Therefore, applicants with previous degrees are not looked upon as special.

I have a previous degree in Business Administration and it has neither helped nor hindered me.
