Hi:nurse:

Has anyone ever worked for Texas Health Resource in the Dallas or surrounding areas?? Any good or bad stories or in between?? Just curious. How do they compare to Baylor? What hospitals or medical facilities would you recommend for good places for employment in the DFW area including Plano, Allen,Frisco and Carrolton-possibly Richardson as well.

Thanks!!!:)

I'm interested in THR as well. Anyone out there know anything about it??

I'll chime in here...

THR is a pretty large and well known not-for-profit health system in the DFW metroplex. Decent company to work for, they are a faith-based system but not overtly religious. They offer good benefits, pretty fair pay for the area. Presby Dallas is a Magnet facility, highly recommended facility and well known throughout Dallas. In the areas you mentioned they operate Presby Plano, Presby Allen, and Presby Dallas. Presby Plano is a large enough facility, great place to work. Presby Allen is a very small community hospital. Has some good areas but it wouldn't be my first choice for a place of employment. How do they compare to Baylor? Baylor Dallas (Big Baylor) is the mothership but Baylor owns and operates several other facilities across the metroplex, although some facilites, such as Baylor Frisco aren't truly a Baylor facility... they basically just rent the Baylor name and are owned by physicians, United Surgical Partners to be exact.

Some other hospitals in the areas you mentioned...

Plano - Medical Center of Plano (HCA), Baylor Plano (The Heart Hospital) [both great places]

Allen - only has one hospital, Presby Allen

Frisco - Baylor Frisco (USP), Centennial Medical Center (Tenet) [would not recommend the latter]

Carrollton - Baylor Carrollton (recently acquired by Baylor, this hospital has changed ownership LOTS in the past few years)

Richardson - Methodist Richardson (now part of Methodist Health System, used to be a Baylor facility, then went sort of independent) [High turn-over here]

There's also McKinney, a nice suburb of Dallas just north of Allen. There's Medical Center of McKinney (HCA), and recently opened Craig Ranch Hospital and Methodist McKinney (both very small independent facilities).

I'd stick with HCA, Baylor or THR facilities. :nurse:

FYI, here are the direct employment sites to all these major systems... makes it easier than going to each individual hospital website. ;) For the taleo.net sites just click "Career Section" and then you can go search for jobs in the North Texas areas.

Thanks for the wonderful info Twentyten!

Since you seem to be the expert, do you know anything about the Fort Worth THR facilities? Especially Harris HEB? I appreciate all the help! :)

Haha FAR from "expert" but just familiar with the area. I don't have much information regarding the Ft. Worth hospitals other than they are under the THR umbrella so same benefits, fair pay, fair treatment of the staff, etc... Anything in the HEB area is going to be working with a diverse patient population. HM-HEB is a larger facility but I don't have much more information than that. Perhaps someone else may chime in...

:)Thank you so much twentyten RN--do you know how the pay is at THR Presby Plano?? For an experienced RN--can you give me a ball park figure. Are you an employee of THR? What is the culture like and why do they do the job fit assessments online?? So it's a pretty good company to work for?? Thanks so much:)

I'll try and answer as best I can as I am not an employee of THR, just have many friends/associates that either do or have worked for them. They're all happy to work for THR, their philosophies are better than some of the other health systems, mainly because they are a not-for-profit organization. They highly encourage continuing education and offer great incentives for you and/or members of your family to continue your education.

As far as the pay rates, I'm afraid I can only speculate and who knows how "in the park I am" with this estimate, but I think I saw you've got ICU experience and I don't know how many years but I'll guess around $28-32ish/hr depending on how many years of experience. PRN rates will obviously be higher.

The culture? I'm unsure of the culture in the ICU specifically, but Presby Plano has many seasoned nurses on staff, some young, some older but mostly pleasant personalities. Good group of physicians on staff as well. They place a big emphasis on women's services at this hospital. Ok what hospital in Plano/Allen/McKinney/Frisco doesn't?!? ;) Big baby-booming area with lots of young couples. They have the ARTs center for reproductive medicine here, many infertile couples rely on their services and highly respect the facility. Presby Plano is located in West Plano off the Dallas Tollway, several affluent neighborhoods nearby and these clientele are some of what you will encounter at the hospital. Parking can be a nightmare at the hospital but I think staff parking is ok.

THR really puts you through the wringer on the personality/psychological assessments. Well, in fact, MOST hospitals in this area do before they choose to pursue you any further as a candidate. They like to see what "qualities" you bring to the table as they have a reputation of having qualified and competent nurses on staff at their facilities. They obviously want your honest answers when going through these assessments but most are pretty easy to determine what underlying characteristic you're being judged on with their questions. Some of them have you take a "nursing skills battery" test to see where you are in your skill level for your years of experience. Good news is, once you've taken them for one of the facilities, your results are good for 12 months so you don't have to keep doing them over and over. THR within the last year or so has adopted a new caring campaign along the lines of "Treat the patient, not the diesease" to encourage the rebirth of compassionate care and high standards of nursing care.

Thank you sooooo much twentyten RN. That was great information!!!!:) Anything else you can think of is welcomed!!!:)

Thanks again, Twenty-ten!

I was eyeing a NICU position at Harris HEB, but they removed it before I could apply. Oh well, maybe next time.

And Chica, sorry to intrude on your post

You weren't intruding--hey it's an open forum!! Everyone is welcome;) I got a call from THR Presby Allen for an interview. I have 2 applications with them, the interview isn't for my dream position, I see my status on both applications they have both been sent to the hiring manager. I just keep waiting for them to call me for the position that I REALLY want:) The dream job I want is at the Plano Presby.:)

You're welcome for the information, anytime. Congrats on the interview. Presby Allen is still a nice place. The main problem area for them is OB... they've gone through several managers there. Allen is just a smaller facility but shouldn't be a problem for you with experience. Could be a nice change of pace? ;)

Good luck!
