Hello to all. I am applying to Texas CRNA schools to start in Summer/Fall of 2020 and wanted to start a thread for others who are also applying to be able to communicate and share questions, encouragements, stats etc. So far I have applied to TCU in Ft Worth and Ut Houston. I will be applying to Baylor College of Medicine as well as Texas Wesleyan when the applications open for those schools as well.
As far as stats. I've worked in ICU for 5 years, currently at a mixed ICU that includes Trauma, CVICU, Neuro, Surgery, and Medical ICU. Graduated back in 2014 with my BSN with a 3.6 GPA, CCRN certified, just completed PALS, and taking the GRE next month.
I look forward to chatting with others who are applying!
They are both good schools. I love in houston and know people who have gone to both. I am going to baylor starting in January. The pros for Baylor, you take classes alongside med-students and have access to things a medical school offers like a cadaver lab for your anatomy classes. I've heard that you get a better OB clinical experience, but that was years ago, and it may be different now. Baylor has classes 5 days a week and the didactic phase is busier at Baylor, but the professors are all excellent and they have a great first time pass rate for the Certification exam and low attrition rate.
UT is the cheapest program in the nation. They have classes 3 days a week during the didactic phase. They both have excellent clinical sites. UT has had a few years with high attrition rates, but recently have had comparable rates to Baylor. I think UT is more friendly to students who have kids because the schedule during the didactic phase is more manageable.
I don't think you can go wrong with either school.

Thanks for the insight. It is definitely a difficult decision to make!

The UT interview was definitely a more intense interview. It seems that they try and get you to crack under pressure. You aren't expected to know everything, that's why they keep asking questions until you don't know something. I'm sure you did great! I wish they weren't so stoic because I am also trying to assess if it's a school I want to attend!

That interview was SOMETHING ELSE. A good number of those questions I did not see coming at all. It was tough but making it through the interview is definitely an accomplishment. I was wondering the same about when we would hear from them as well. I have a decision deadline next week for another school and want to know what my options are.

I wasn't able to make it to Houston yesterday for my interview due to the tropical storm, but today during my Skype interview, Tarsha said that we should know by next Friday. That they accept 22-23 students and 100 interviewed. 200 applied. The interview wasn't near as bad as I expected! They were very welcoming and laid back. Maybe it was a little less stressful over Skype?

I was asked the usual: patient population, drips, vents. A good bit of personal questions were mixed in, which was a nice break in between clinical questions.
