Texas A&M (TAMU) Spring 2020 Second degree BSN

Published

Hi all!

Didn't see a thread started for spring 2020 so I thought I would start one! The application opens soon, yay!

So a little about me, I have a previous bachelors degree from the University of Texas. I have 2 prerequisites left to complete (statistics and A&P II). My nursing science GPA is 3.8 and I take the HESI in a few weeks. I am applying for the Round Rock campus, I live in Austin now and am a stay at home mom while finishing up my prerequisites. I am so nervous! I do not currently have any hospital experience or volunteer work which I hoping to find somewhere soon to start. Would love to hear from anyone else applying to the program ?

Luckily there’s still plenty of time before that deadline!

Specializes in BSN Student Nurse.

I'm currently in a 12 month accelerated second degree BSN program at South Dakota State University. I relocated up to SD from Dallas in January to complete this program. For those of you who are still considering applying to other schools, or are open to relocating out of state for 12 months, this program is still accepting applications through NursingCAS for the Aberdeen campus. Orientation for the Spring 2020 cohort which starts the first week of January is next month. Here is a link to the website. https://www.sdstate.edu/undergraduate-nursing/accelerated-option-aberdeen

Let me know if you have any questions. I know A&M gets 200-300 applications per cycle and only take 20-30 per campus. Texas schools are very competitive, so looking at out of state programs is one way to ensure you are starting a nursing program in January!

Who's still waiting to hear back? Have some of you been given the go ahead for Apply Texas? Last I heard anything was Aug. 19th that my transcript eval is taking longer than usual because of the number of colleges I've attended. Still, though, it's making me nervous to not be given the go ahead for Apply Texas yet.

I’m still waiting to hear back. I reached out a week or so ago and they said that my application is in the queue still and i should wait until i hear back to start the apply Texas application. Makes me nervous too

I was given the go-ahead a few weeks ago. Still haven't turned in my ApplyTexas though, I need to write essay C. Make sure y'all check out the essays beforehand! I thought all we would need was a statement of purpose (essay A) but Essay B and C are optional additions. Although "optional" means "required if you want admission" in my opinion.

This is on TAMU's nursing website. I don't believe they require you to write the essays on Apply Texas, only the NursingCAS essay.

NOTE: You do not need to resend transcripts or answer another essay as part of the ApplyTexas process. The AIS site will show that your application is incomplete since all nursing applicants must send transcripts and answer the essay in NursingCAS; do not let this alarm you. The College of Nursing will notify you directly when your application is complete. For information regarding application evaluation, see Admission Criteria.

WOW that's so good to hear!! Thank you so much!!! @HH2019

I was also given the go ahead to do the Apply Texas a couple weeks ago, and they told me we can put anything in essay section because they don’t look at that they only look at the one you put in NursingCAS. I just put the same nursing personal statement I did for NursingCAS.

I got the go ahead to submit my ApplyTexas application at the end of July, and just submitted that portion when I realized we didn't have to write the essays. Thanks so much @HH2019 for pointing that out, such a relief!

For the people who have their AIS set up - Does yours say "My App is Incomplete"?

I know this is being excessive because their website literally talks about this and how it's fine, but I'm hyper nervous about my application. My Tech app wasn't even considered because I made a mistake with thinking it was complete when it wasn't, so I'm stressed about getting in since this is the only school I was able to apply for!

Just curious has anyone received the email to do a background check? I haven't heard anything from the nursing school other than my file is complete, and we should hear something by late October.

Just wanted to see what kind of feedback everyone is getting.

The "My App is Incomplete" is very annoying, but I really don't think we should be stressing about that. I called them before I turned in my ApplyTexas, and they said I didn't even need to fill out the experience and volunteering part because they just look at the NursingCAS. I also got the email about the application status stating that the college of nursing had received all the necessary information. No background check email yet.
