Test on July 15 2015 HELP

Published

Hey guys!!!

I take my test in 10 days and I am nervous (like everyone else). I have been studying every single day for 1 1/2 months for about 4-8 hrs depending on the day. Literally would wake up eat, study, eat, study, eat, study sleep. I know I sound crazy But I am not the best test taker so I have to go the extra mile and study more :) Thankfully my school provided Kaplan for us this year. My studying has been mainly focused on Kaplan. My scores so far have been this:

-question trainers: 66,60,46,57,61,56

-qbank: 62

-sample tests: 60,62,90,40

- readiness (we took this in school rushed and i didnt know anything): 64%

I still have 200 qbanks to do and Im doing qt7 tomorrow. I know my ques trainers have been fluctuating but ive been doing better on the qbanks. I started out getting 45-60% a month ago and now have been getting 65-80% on them. I am worried that my qt are too low and that I'm not being consistent. I also have a couple friends i work with who graduated last year and still cant pass and They scare me and tell me that i would be lucky to pass because its horrible. I have friends in different states that i graduated with who have passed with flying colors without putting much effort into it.

I also came across Uworld and have been starting a couple ques. Is kaplan or Uworld more identical to the testing format on the nclex? I also read the ati cumulative content book, did a couple questions from the Kaplan book, some ques from the lippincott alternative book, and a couple chapters in the Q&A Davis Success Comprehensive book.

So to summarize this all.. Am i doing okay?! What did you guys use to study that was helpful? Sometimes I feel like Im playing Russian Roulette with these Kaplan ques since theyre so hard! Worried that I'll guess wrong. I am definitely more confident in myself now than I was a month ago, but I still feel like I dont know a lot.

Thanks guys :)

The security code is the 3 digit number on the backside of the card.

Yeah I know. She put that in there correctly and it still says "The payment was declined. Reason: Invalid security code. Contact your credit card company or use a different credit card".

Waited the 24 hours AFTER i finished the test and did the PVT again.... got the good pop up. Meh 24 more hours for the unofficial results...

Hey do you think its helpful to do the entire Kaplan Qtrainers? I have finished the QBank and I'm pressed for time. I still want to review content, medications (I haven't started yet), and go over some of the questions from the Qbank as review and Uworld too. I'm not sure if Qtrainers (i heard it was really hard harder than nclex) is worth to do if it's not going to be as hard as QT. Would like your opinion since you've done the exam and the trainers personally. Thank you :) and congrats!

hey how'd you do? Log on to link for quick results. I found out immediately the next day that I passed. I passed with 75 questions.. I did 100 questions a day alternating Kaplan and Saunders. Kaplan scores ranged from 60-80%. I'm praying you passed. I was in your shoes just a week ago.

Koni01,

honestly I had a different experience with NCLEX. I would most definitly study pharm but study the KAPLAN pharm because all of my pharm on the test was everything from kaplan. As far as everything else, I would do QT6 & QT7 if youre pressed for time. I went in expecting my test to be all med surg but it was mostly mat/peds for me. Definitly study your weak points and for content, i would review 2 days before your test and then take the day OFF before your test. That def relaxed me.

mcuello7,

that link is for florida and I'm from NJ! I keep updating the NJ health dept but my license is still pending. I heard they move pretty slow tho so I'll prob know tomorrow based on my unofficial results.

Thanks for your reply Dee0302

I have roughly 2 weeks before my exam. Thank you for your advice I will go back through Kaplan and look at pharm today and tomorrow. IS QT 6 and 7 the most helpful ones to do before the exam? OR do you think the entire QT bank is beneficial because I can probably just cram everything in for 2 weeks but I'm also trying to do Lipincott Q and A and also the Exam Cram book. Soo much questions to do and I'm getting scared about not knowing the content.

Koni01,

trust me i did not know A LOT of content going in. And the stuff i did know was not on the test. This test is to test your judgement and your instinct. You may know the answer to a ques or you may not know. The best thing i can tell you is to go with your GUT FEELING even if you are not completely sure. It is that NURSE INSTINCT in you that knows what to do.

dee0302. I'm praying for you girl.

I found a post where a girl just recently did the pvt on july 1st and got the bad pop up and she actually passed by looking at her quick results. so i dont think this thing is accurate

Oh my word the amount of misinformation in this thread is STAGGERING.

First, regarding the NCLEX itself: since you have to demonstrate competency to a 95% confidence interval in ALL domains in order to pass, you will only get as many questions as necessary to satisfy each area. If you are consistently (or inconsistently) making errors in one or more areas that drop that CI below the passing threshold, you will get more and more questions until you CAN demonstrate the level of competency needed. This is why it seems to "know your weaknesses" and the test seems to keep hammering you with questions about things you don't know enough about. Sometimes it's more about perception (I don't like peds questions and I'm only seeing peds questions) and sometimes it's more about reality (I keep answering peds questions wrong so I keep getting more peds questions).

SATA doesn't indicate higher levels of questions. SATA can be below the passing standard as well; it's the content of the question itself that determines this, not the format type.

PVT: where to start? Some people use a valid card and change the expiration date and do not get an error message. Some do. Some people use a valid card and change the security code, no problem.....and for others it is. Some people get charged for another registration by using valid card info and they failed.....and others get charged for another registration EVEN THOUGH THEY PASSED.

NOT being able to create a duplicate registration most of the time does indicate the likelihood of passing. For others....it gives them the elation of believing they passed but in the end....BANG: they failed anyway. And then there are all those who got the "bad pop up" because they provided false card information and Pearson Vue attempted to charge them (hence, "bad pop up" but in reality, they do NOT all fail.

And let's not forget the biggie: people who insist on doing the PVT multiple times do increase the odds that they WILL BE charged at some point (or have an invalid entry attempt to be charged, creating the same 'bad pop up' situation).

Waiting AT LEAST 24 hours after COMPLETION of your exam will give you the most "accurate" (and boy, I hate that word when speaking of the PVT) result: your exam needs to undergo a QA review at some point during the 24 hours following your exam, and until that happens, any message you get playing on your phone or computer is utterly meaningless. But then if you do it again, and get a differing message....maybe you passed? Maybe you failed? Dunno....it's a game, not a result.

Some people do say it was stress-relieving to do the PVT because they got "the good pop up" and now are heartened that they probably passed. Others say it was very stressful and downright stupid to do, as they only freaked out MORE after doing it! After all...if you got a 'bad pop up', are you going to be happy, relieved? NO. You just get to stress for a longer period of time, while waiting for official results. Sometimes the bad pop up means you did fail.....and sometimes it just causes unbearable pain for someone who PASSED.

Food for thought.

Correct. It is not accurate, it is a GAME. The software equivalent of a Magic 8 Ball, folks....

I agree RNsrWe. I havent even attempted to do the PVT. Doing my quick results tomorrow. Right know i know a girl who change the exp date and it say she couldn't register at the time (she thinks she passed) and like i stated earlier my friend keeps getting the invalid due to security code being wrong (she changed the exp date also). Now she thinks she failed. I even called the PVU office and the man said this exactly

"please keep in mind that the NCLEX examination is just one part of the nursing licensure process. Any alternate methods for receiving exam results do not indicate that you have a license. Additionally, the NCLEX fee is non-refundable and, therefore, the Pearson VUE Trick” can result in the loss of the exam fee".

so its not accurate like people are making it seem.
