And to think, the VA are just about the only hospital system in Texas with a union. . .

Not that I'm saying that that is the cause of their problems; but, it certainly hasn't been a solution.

Funny, you could argue the fact that it was in such an anti-union area may be contributing to some of the problems.

Austin hospitals are next on the list for organizing RNs and their staff.:chuckle

Not even in 'liberal' Austin is there enough support for unions.

The hurdle of 'right to work' means that nobody will pay dues for a union. Why should they? IF THERE EVER WAS A UNION, they have to negotiate for EVERYBODY, whether they pay dues . . . or not.

And besides, there just isn't enough interest for more beauracratic interferences in the workplace.

I've worked in Austin. There are some GREAT hospitals there, and some great places to work. And that's without unions.

Simply put, why add an un-needed union?

In fact, unions have been trying to 'organize' Texas RNs without success for years. About 5 yrs ago, we came out of work w/ union flyers on all our cars. Result: a few dead trees.

Actually, just the opposite.

I don't want to be a 'slave' to either an employer OR a union.
