Temple University Hospital, is it a good place to work?

Published

Hi,

I was recently offered a RN position at Temple University Hospital. I currently live in Allentown, PA and by accepting this position my husband and I will have to relocate. Is Temple a good place to work? What is patient population like? Is there any safe public transportation to Temple? Is it affordable to work there and live in suburb area outside philly?

Thank you so much!

The area around temple is not good but I would still take the job...

this is off-topic but is temple still hiring? I've applied there so many times and have heard nothing, do you have experience already? I am a new grad so maybe thats why...

I was just hired last month. I applied online and went to a huge interview event. I only have 14 months exp as an RN, but I do know that they hired a few new grads for the floor I am on. I was told by my nurse manager that after their strike, many people chose to switch from 8 to 12 hr shifts, and some people left, so positions opened up..that's just what I was told though. They may still be hiring, I would apply online and then DEFINITELY CALL HR AND FOLLOW UP! thats how i got in, i was offered an interview shortly after contacting HR, other friends of mine who applied and did not follow up were ignored. I have heard that it is a wonderful place to work, and that is how I am finding it so far :) Good Luck

PS I'm not suggesting that you would apply somewhere for a job and then not call to follow up, just relaying my experience lol :)

oh yes take the job.... I am a nurse here in philly...... you have to be careful anywhere you live nowadays.... Take the job.... I applied their months ago.... I have 7 months experience on a Shirt Stay Unit... i hope to reapply to Temple University Hospital soon... Good Luck :D

Temple is a great place to work for. You will learn a lot working there. I am a native of philly but now live in delaware county. It is not a safe place to be walking around, however neither are any of the other good hospitals such as univ of penn, albert einstein, hahnemann, etc. I personally think you will be just fine. Good luck

What is the pay for Temple?

Temple pays well but.........

They have horrible security. They recently started to increase security after so many nurses were assaulted by patients and visitors.

They always under-staff to save money. Most units run with one nurses aide for 30+ patients and RNs are at a 6:1 ratio.

The patient population can be challenging.

After the strike, administration has been looking for any possIble reason to terminate employees.

The tuition benefits were changed, personal time was taken away and insurance costs tripled (unless you use temple for all your medical services).

I agree with your assessment except that Hahnemann seems to be in a slighty better area as far as personal safety goes, & I would still be looking over my shoulder no matter where I worked or worked for that matter, speaking from experience.

i work at Temple Hospital and Amandarn24 posting is absolutely correct.

Temple is not as good as it used to be in terms of benefits. You only get $6,000 at year on tuition which is taxed and health insurance is around 200 per pay for a family of 4 and parking is around 90 a month, city wage tax is 4.5% and then there are union dues.

firstly, congrats on the job offers!

i know you first posted back in 2010 but my question is ---> how did you manage to snag an interview with tuh? :yelclap:

i'm a recent grad from montgomery county and aas nursing and my rn license. i just passes my boards in this month nov. 2011 and have been sending out applications like a madman! !!!! :uhoh3: .... things are sooo much more competitive here in pa because of all the colleges and universities that pump out rn grads by the minute it seems. :banghead:

ok... done with venting... but really i am interested in tuh; i've tried contacting hr and one one -ever- picks up their extension.

any advice or info on a contact person would be so appreciated! (feel free to shot me an email) :)
