Temecula Valley Hospital New Grad Job Fair April 2013 - Southwest Healthcare System

Published

Hey everyone! I thought it would be helpful to start a new thread for the Temecula Valley New Grad Job Fair that happened today. It didn't seem like there was much information they could give as far as the number of people they would hire, when it would start, or when/if they would be calling people. Anyone get info today that they'd like to share? Then we can all keep each other updated on here. Good luck to us all!

I got an email today too! I'm so excited anything we need to brush up on for the assessments??

Ok, so I'm very curious about those who received call backs from this job fair. How many are BSN's and how many are ASN's/ADN? I have been accepted to three nursing schools. I already have a Bachelors in Business Admin. I'm 39 and don't really want to take a loan for $45,000 to get another Bachelors if I don't have to. The total of the ASN is $3000. That is a HUGE difference in cost and I will be having a child in college in a few years so I'm not sure I want to "take" anything from his fund. I've been told about half and half that you need a BSN to be considered for any nursing jobs vs. it doesn't matter. I have been told my current BSBA will help me too once I get in. So did any ASN's get call backs?

I am an ADN and received a callback. I am in the process of getting my BSN which is on my resume. However, I do know 2 other people who were ADN's that received callbacks. I know it's a tough decision to make. It is tough getting new grad positions right now and anything helps (BSN degree). I understand the price difference is a lot. I'm wondering if the fact that you already have A bachelors degree would give you an upper hand for jobs. Bottom line, I'm sure you will be able to find a job with an ADN it just might take a little longer. Good luck!

I'm a BSN. I have a previous BS and MS and hospitals don't care about those. I've also been in the pharma industry for 12 years (that's helping a little).

As far as ADN vs BSN, if you are applying to a magnet hospital they need about 80% BSNs. If you get an ADN, you will probably find a job, it just may be a little harder and believe me right now it is HARD. Of the 180-some jobs I've applied for, most of them said BSN required or preferred.

I've also heard of some hospitals hiring ADNs with the stipulation that they get their BSN within X number of years. My cousin had to do that.

But, then again who knows what the market will look like when you are done.

I have a BSN and a previous BA in Spanish....I think my previous degree helps only because it makes me completely fluent in Spanish rather than just being able to converse only. Many hospitals in Orange County only hire BSN's and I have 2 small children so I didn't want to get my ADN and then eventually have to return for my BSN later....my husband was like bang it out in 1 shot. Good luck!

A BA in Spanish is most definitely an advantage!

I read an article that Temecula Valley Hospital will be implementing the 8hr workday for their nurses.

Yes, it said on the piece of paper that we took with us from the person that checked us in to the interviewer that TVH is 8 hrs and the other hospitals are 12 hrs.

So do we still not have any idea what floors they're hiring for? Is it all med surg at all 3 hospitals? They never asked me at the interview....I know temecula won't have OB which is what I'm hoping for so I would like rancho springs preferably

So I had the assessment this morning at 9:30 and they said we would hear something within 1-2 weeks via email or phone call

I took mine at 8:30. I never want to take that one again!

So I just had a thought....did anyone who applied online but didn't attend the job fair get invited to the assessment today? Not sure what the next step will be?
