Hello. Just curious if anyone has heard or worked for American Healthways doing disease case management. Any info appreciated.

Thanks!

Maybe its the location you interview with. I wasn't kept waiting long. The RN was very nice and we had a good interview. However she recognized me from years past when we worked in the same hospital so maybe thats why. I found her very pleasant. She got back to me quickly on a question that I had. I was called back in the time frame I was given. I have an offer on the table and have just finished interviewing at a couple of other places and will weigh which will fit with me better. I was told of the moving of the cubes but didn't think they did this when you were not there. That is strange. Now my phone is ringing off the hook with places that want to interview me. I guess when it rains it pours. There is one place I think which will be a great fit and am looking forward to seeing what happens. Thanks for the info. This is a good place to see what is out there. I went up on the elevator with another RN who said that AH was a great place to work at. Maybe some offices are run better than others.

wincha - did you interview at the Maryland office (Columbia)? Maybe it was just a bad day for the HR lady & the interviewing nurses....because they were BACKED up....there were 3 other nurses in the lobby with me & they were getting upset since our interview times were so delayed/late, one of them had to leave since she was going into work later. Do you think they move the cubicles so you won't "get close" with your co-workers or do they want you work next to different co-wokers periodically...strange though isn't it? Well good luck with all your job interviews & also with your job offer at Am Healthways, maybe it will turn out to be a good thing. I am still interviewing too...you never know what good jobs are out there unless you keep trying.

no it wasn't maryland. i am going to make my decision from all the info i have seen and read. i'm not sure which job i will choose. i want to stay at the job that i choose longterm.

Good Luck Wincha, hope you get the position that you want! Let me know how it goes at Am Healthways if you decide to accept the offer.

Funnygirl_rn2,

I don't know what you have against Healthways, but you really need to check your sources. The reason gwheltle didn't like the management here is because they where on her about doing her job. You can't go to any job and just think they are going to pay you and not do the work. If any one spoke down to her it's because she acted like she didn't know what she was doing as far a nursing goes. When you want to find out about a company go to someone that is still with the company, because they actually know what they are talking about. When you speak to someone who no longer work for a company, and only lasted 2 1/2 months, you have to wonder why and they will not give you the whole story. There is always two sides to every story, so listen to both sides before you make judgement. No job is perfect and I know the hospitals are not. But Healthways actually listen to their employee's and make changes. How many companies can you say do that.

I applied for an admin. job at American Healthways a few years ago before going to Nursing School. After two interviews I was promised a job at the Columbia, MD location and given a start date. Two days before my start date I called to ask a question about my photo id. I was then told that they offered the job to another person. To me that was very disrespectful and unprofessional. If I had not called I would not have known that they decided to give the job to someone else. Two weeks after my "start date" I received a letter from Jeremy Stone indicating that he had offered the job to someone else. Now that I am a nurse I see there ads in the nursing magazines but I would never work for them. I am not surprised that they have such a high turnover.

Hi Proudnurse. Sorry to hear what happened to you @ American Healthways. So odd that you mentioned Jeremy Stone, because one of my girlfriends applied for a disease CM position at hte Columbia office & was also told she had the position, received a letter from HR with her start time/orientation, salary & benefit package, you know filled out the tax stuff for employment. When she arrived to start her first day of orientation, she was told there was better candidates than her and she "must not have received her we are sorry you did not get the position letter, sent out by Jeremy Stones"!!! How rude and inconsiderate was that??!! She turned down another position since she was hoping to leave bedside nursing, so she was out of a job after resigning from her previous job!! I was going to go to an open house last month, but decided not to after how she was treated & other nurses that I spoke to. Hope you were able to find another position. Best of luck.

I work at another company "like" Healthways but better however things are changing and we will be micromanaged and turn more like AH. I know many nurses who used to work for AH for a few years even. Yes its as sweatshop, the group were happy to get out of there and be on the ground floor of another DM company. They offered me a job however wouldn't tell me the shift until after I started. I saw too many red flags when talking to them and from other nurses. No one should talk down to you even like the previous poster who was defending AH. Its just not professional. I found out about my company from a nurse on this website. So word of mouth is a HUGE deal.

Hi wincha. Thanks for your post. As you said, word of mouth is a big deal, it is better to hear good info on a company from others who have worked there...otherwise you could make a big mistake, when you could have accepted another position elsewhere where you would have been more happier. Often when you see the same ads plastered in all nursing spectrum, nursing advance magazine, Career builder, your local/city papers, ...constantly, as in weekly, then you know that they are having major issues keeping employees, something just doesn't add up right & you are absolutely correct in regards to that previous poster who was defennding AH. I too felt it was very rude and not professional. I wouldn't want to work with a person such as that poster. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck. I am currently doing case management and I love it. I took a big pay cut; however all the nurses I work with are nice/friendly and extremely supportive of one another. That is a good thing! ;)

Ok so I replied to that almost this time last yr. Things change very quickly there. I've been gone since 8/07. Working till 9pm EVERY day gets old. The promises of bonuses wnt out the window. Top management bought a hockey team (Nashville Predators)

They lost a huge contract, and are tied up in the Medicare pilot. Financial reports suggest they are making big bucks, but it is not being passed on to the employees. In May they announced a 3mil bonus from an account, which was supposed to go directly into the bonus pool. By Ealry July the announcement came that there would be NO bonus. This company fired a NUN, because she spoke up.

They beat 3 calls per hr into your head, and you must stay "on the dialer" 85%. Pee breaks are deducted. Some folks eat at their desks, to be sure they have their dialer time in.

From my buds that are left, things are not getting any better.

I have heard that AH has gotten worse than what you describe. Now they are pushing more calls per hour and less time on the phone. Many nurses I know came from AH.

I thought you could sue them for doing that.
