Hello, everyone!
I am currently employed at a hospital in my area as a patient sitter. Since I will be hopefully starting nursing school within the next few months, I am looking to transfer to a position as a telemetry technician. I am currently taking a cardiac dysrhythmia course at my school and it is 8 weeks and we go through NSR and sinus dysrhythmias, atrial rhythms, junctional rhythms, ventricular rhythms and heart blocks. I feel like I am pretty competent, but do you guys know of any exams/courses I could take that will provide me a certification I can show to my employer? Any input is greatly appreciated!
p.s. as a telemetry technician, do I need to have a pretty thorough rhythm understanding or just the basics?

MrClean- it is a violation of the Terms of Service to have 'RN' in your screen name if you are not a nurse. Please change it.

The requirements will vary from facility to facility. Usually the only requirement is on the job training. An eight week course in cardiac rhythms seems more than sufficient.
And, if you're not an RN, I'd advise against having that designation as part of your user name here. Just a gentle warning.

There is a national certification, but it's not mandatory anywhere I've worked. Might get you an extra $1, though. I was a tele tech for a few years before becoming a nurse. Vaguely helpful when applying for jobs... mainly if you apply for a position on a PCU or some other floor where you need the skill.
P.S. I hate junctional rhythms.
