Telemetry or MICU??

Specializes in ICU, ED.

Definitely go to the interview for MICU and see what happens! The experience you will gain from a level one trauma center/large teaching hospital is incalculable and will make you a valuable candidate for other jobs later on.

Nothing wrong with getting telemetry experience first. But...a piece of advice. This is a relatively anonymous forum and I wouldn't share the names of the places you're looking. That or have your real name as your screen name here, if that's your name. Too easy for ppl to put 2 and 2 together. Who knows? Maybe even the managers in those hospitals are on this forum.

Just be careful...and good luck to you in your decision!

Thank you for your input and the advice. Not my name but you're absolutely correct about the point you made. I thought it harmless since I've found all this information on this forum already but then again these days something innocent can be taken in a very different light. Thank you again, I'll keep that in mind.

Specializes in MICU, SICU, CICU.

Are you a city girl or a small town girl. Many new nurses are just lost and overwhelmed in an urban major medical center. Some thrive in a high pressure environment. What is your comfort zone? Go with your gut feeling, they are always right.

Thank you for your advice! I am fairly new to this site and social media in general so I didn't really give that much thought until you and Beckyboo1 pointed that out. :inlove: Thank you for that and thank you for your input on what to consider for picky an area..

I am a little bit of both...i grew up in a small town/country but have been in and out of the big city by entire life and relocated a few years ago into the city. I do enjoy both but I am getting so tired of living conditions here!! I like my space and privacy or freedom to park where ever I please without having to drive around for an hour to look for parking!

I am going to take that into consideration.

I would choose the MICU. I say that because both are considered acute care and both will have Telemetry type patients. Honestly, it seems like ICU nurses are more respected than the Med-Surg Nurses. Just my two cents, it seems its easier to transfer specialties with ICU experience vs Med Surg experience as well.
