TEASE entrance exam

Don't be nervous. It is MUCH easier than the study books make it out to be. I'm assuming by study guide you mean the nursing school entrance exam book? I studied that thing like crazy because it had been so long since I took chemistry and I never took physics. Turned out I didn't need to study that much. It's mainly just common sense stuff. Prepare for it but don't stress. Seriously.

Hey guys, need help! Just found out I have to take the TEASE in Feb. to get into the bridge LVN to RN program at my college. I have the study guide. Any adivce on those who have taken it would help. I am not good with math or have not had the physics portion so am freaked out. I am 50 years old and don't have time to keep taking it I need to pass it and get in the RN program ASAP. Any other resources besides the study guide the TEASE site recommends. It does not explain things very well to me especially the math. Thanks so much for any help, suggestions, your experiences! I took the TEAS in November.

my suggestion would be to study the study guide inside and out. The most important thing for math, is being able to do the calculations quickly. There are no calculators allowed. The math is not hard but each problem was several steps and lots of calculating, so if you can't do these problems quick you will run out of time.

It is a hard exam but if you study you will do well.

I also took the TEAS in November. I did the study guide and the online practice tests. I agree with the above poster, go fast on the math. I did not finish 2 problems in the math portion.. was litterally speed writing at the end. You said that the math portion was not making sense in the study guide..try it online (practice test) and see if that helps. If not, I would hire a tutor.

Thank you guys for all your suggestions and help. I am so afraid I won't pass this test and then I can't get into the RN Program after all this work. Hopefully I can figure out the math. I'm taking two short nursing math classes in January that I hope will help.

Seriously the math is very basic, if you use the study guide you will know all you need to know. You just need to know it quickly lol.

I heard alot of people on here saying the study guide was much harder, I didn't find that at all. There was a lot of material and I was overwelmed by the exam, I did pretty good on it though so I am pleased but I did study the guide really well, and took the online test.

Thanks so much guys. I have at least 5 weeks to study, just hope that is enough time to learn the math. I do not do well with math word problems and it seems like that is most of the math on the test. I am going to buy the online test too since most of you said it helps. Why does becoming a nurse have to be so hard~~!!!! Some days I think maybe I should just stay an LVN. But I can't afford to live on $16/hr. The other issue I have is that there is physics on this test and that is a prereq I never was required to take. Just hope the test is not as bad as the book. Ha Ha. I too am an older student and it had been awhile since my last math class. I took the TEAS in August of last year and spent the summer months going through the study guide and scored in the high 90's for my group. A friend of mine, also an older student, didn't study and did just as well (but suspect he was good at math; I get rusty and need to review). Another friend retook it as she wasn't happy with her original score.

Felt the study guide was way harder than the test. For example, the ATI/TEAS study guide has you apply the geometry theorems to come up with a solution; in the test you only need to know which you would use to solve a problem. So if you work through the study guide carefully you will be prepared for the test--there were some questions that were just like the study guide just with different numbers.

The math was easier than anticipated. The problem with the actual test is that you run out of time in the math section, so be prepared to strategize how you do your math--don't spend more than 1 -2 minutes per problem. Try to work backwards by plugging in the multiple choice answers when possible....was able to solve some multiple step questions quickly this way by guessing at the right answer.

Don't worry, you will do fine.

Bertolozzi, thanks so much for your support and help. I really appreciate it. I tend to overstudy for tests because I have such test anxiety. The math is what scares me the most. I'm getting out my beginning algebra book and go over what I can't remember. I'm not sure what our school requires for a passing score. I just hope I can do it. Not that many years to fool around. Just turned 50 !

No worries--it all starts coming back with a little practice. My friends and I are all older students, and we did well. We got in and started our RN nursing program in the Fall. One friend was not happy with her original grade and was able to retake the test. Often, there are several testing sites with different test dates so you may have this option too.

Forgot to mention, when working through the study guide, I had my hubby or the BBsitter tutor me on the problems I had forgotten. I also went through and did the study guide problems twice. By the second go around, it was coming all back. Then, just before the test, I got my hands on an older version of the ATI study guide and did the math problems in there as well (they redid the study guide a couple years ago).

I also went to a test prep class, but found it worthless. In retrospect, I over studied because I like you was not getting younger and was anxious to get a seat come Fall. Just use that study guide as your bible and you will be fine. Focus your anxiety on working through a several questions a day, and revisit them the next day--those questions will come up (mostly in an easier format) on the actual TEAS test.

I was anxious too. I remember the first time I opened up that study guide....that first "reading" section was deceptively easy and got me thinking the TEAS would be a breeze. Then I got to the math and it stopped me cold....it had been so long since I had done math like that! Plus, I don't think I had much geometry in highschool so I had to have my hubby teach me that stuff from scratch.

In the end, I did extremely well--and you will too. The funny thing is math is not my strongest thing, but that was the section where I had my highest scores.....the grammar section that I did not study at all were my lowest. Of course, everyone does well in the reading. Think I was in the 100's there. Bring some water and snacks with you to the test, and a positive attitude--you will be fine.
