TEAS V

I took the TEAS V this past Nov. at my school and I did not receive a calculator. I just graduated from HS so I never took the TEAS IV. Everyone that has taken the TEAS IV and had to take the new TEAS V says that that the TEAS V was harder. Of course I don't know, but the testing coordinator at my school says that A student will usually make 10 points higher on the TEAS IV than what they made on the TEAS IV. All of the other schools I'm applying to still use the TEAS IV as their entrance exam so I'll still have to take that in Jan. and the HESI A2 for yet another program I'm applying to this coming weekend. (Dec. 18th)

I made above my school minimum requirement, but it was with difficulty. The TEAS V is hard, but passable. I wasn't as prepared as I thought I was when it came to the science portion. There were many chemistry questions that went into some advanced chem questions. The test in general was not that bad tough. I did good on the math, even better than I did in science and I hate and am horrible at math. I hope everyone does well on whatever exam they are taking.

Also my test was computerized and we got instant results as well.

how detail do i need to go with physics? do they provide us with equations? what equations should i memorize?

from what i recall, there was very minimal physics if at all, and if there was any it was basic stuff. you don't need to go crazy memorizing any equations for that part, which in physics tend to be a bit hard to remember. the only formulas i remember having to know by heart were in the math section, like calculating area, perimeter and the pythagorean theorem. i seem to recall that if anything had to be calculated in the science section, the information was pretty much given to you. now, chemistry is covered a lot more, along with the biology (anatomy/micro/general bio topics)... balancing chemical equations does come up! make sure you know how to do those. the good thing about these is that one of the answer choices is the answer. i basically went and checked each choice to see which one was balanced, eliminated the rest and found my answer. better than racking one's brain to balance the one in the question.

i scored in the 99th percentile on the teas v. it's not as hard as people say. i highly recommend using the ati study guide for teas v (don't use the study guide for 3.0 or 4.0, it's way off topic), that is really all i used, and do every practice question you can get your hands on. this is how you will become comfortable with the test format (especially using the practice tests online that cost $35 - you only really need to buy one or the other like i did). to be honest, there was no question on the actual teas i took that made me go "crap! i never learned this." i was scoring 75-80% on the practice tests and as you can see i did much better on the real one. i found the practice questions harder. when you score your practice tests, only study the topics for questions you got wrong, why waste time studying what you got right?

I have the study book and bought the practice exams. I did bad on the first practice exam..

btw are there any question on rocks, mountain, weathering on TEAS 5? I didnt see that in the book but pll said they had questions based on that

Not that I recall. I heard those types of questions were very common in TEAS 3.0 and 4.0 but not in version V.

I am going to take the TEAS V on March 3. I havent had much time to study the science section and I am freaking out. I wasnt planning on taking the test for another month (or so) but one of the schools I applied to needs it by the end of March. I am currently taking 6 classes and I dont really have anytime to study the study guide. I have tried to, but it is interfering with what I am learning. I can only learn so much before I start to mix things up. I need to continue with my good grades or I can forget about getting into any of the Nursing Programs. It has been 11 years since I graduated high school. One of the classes that I am currently taking is intro to chemistry (since I never took it in high school). I have taken the practice tests and my score has just barely raised. I got around a 56% on the practice test (which is horrible... I know). My plan (and its not a good one) was to just go wing the test and hope for the best. The school that I go to allows you to take it as many times as you want so I figured if I dont pass then atleast I will have some idea what is on the test then I can try to study that and take it soon after. How hard is the TEAS V? I need some insight if at all possible.

I read some posts about the Teas test and some people
where saying that they were provided with a calculator.
I took the teas 4 and there was no calculator and I'm actually
taking the teas 5 this january and I was wondering if anyone
knew if a calculator was allowed on it. Does anyone know
how the teas version 5 differs and do you think that I should
buy a new review book for the teas 5 or just use my teas test
version 4 study book (kaplan). What's the best study
resource?

I just took the TEAS V two days ago and we were not allowed a calculator. I don't know the differences between 4 and 5 as far as what is on the exam but everything I've read said that V is much harder than previous tests. I got the TEAS V study guide from atitesting.com and that helped a lot and I did very well. I got the package that includes the guide and online practice tests...the online tests will score you as soon as you're done and will tell which areas of each section you are weak on and need to study more and what page of the study guide to go and review the information.

I did terrible on my first practice exam as well...I think I got a 45% on the science part the first go but then after I studied for a bit and took it again, I got a 73%. I read the same thing but I didn't have anything on the exam about rocks, weather etc. Mine was a lot of chemistry and life science with a little anatomy thrown in.

I'm not going to lie...it is a very hard test. And not because the material itself is difficult to understand but because it is a lot of material and much of it no one has had since highschool or earlier. If you can take it multiple times, that is great (my school only allows 2 tries then you have to wait a YEAR). Take it now, see how you do. When you get your scores it will have a sheet that tells you what areas in each section you need to review more -- that may help you cut down on how much you truly need to study.

Thanks for the info. I am just going to take it and hope for the best. I am very nervous. I dont know if I will have the chance to take it two times. I am only available on Thursdays (b/c I have class every other day). I have been looking over the book and I took the practice tests (which I scored horribly... I think I got a 54). This whole thing is making me extremely nervous. I am studying for the TEAS, a chem test, and A&P lab and lecture tests that I also have next week. UGH!!!! :eek:

I wasn't allowed a calculator.. and to be honest.. I don't think it's right at all if some places allow it and others don't, UNLESS it's being taken at a singular school and everyone taking for that school is given the option to have one.

Anyone with a calculator is going to score higher in math which will raise the overall personal score making that person more competitive. How is that fair AT ALL to the person who had to do it all long hand, especially when you don't have time on that section to go back and check your work?

I have heard that HESI has a calculator built into their math test (or perhaps the regular computer calculator is enabled)... perhaps people are confusing the two...

I agree with you. I dont think that it is fair for anyone to be able to use a calculator. I know that if I was able to use one I would prob score extremely high in that section. Im not that great at math but Im not as worried about that section as I am for the science section. I dont have a chem background (as I am currently taking the course now), and it has been years for me in any type of science. I am currently in A&P 1 so I have a little background but not nearly enough. I just have to keep an open mind!
