Teas V Help

Published

hey!

i am scheduled to take the teas v exam towards the end of this month. i'm looking for some guidance and advice. also, i bought the ati study guide and online exams and was wondering how much harder/easier are the online exams compared to the real test? i am scoring around a 75 on the online practice tests and was wondering if my score would go up/down on the real exam.

thanks for your help!

can someone please inform me on how to read those stupid DNA charts and you have to like translate it...i can't explain it..i always get those questions wrong and i DON'T see how to do it in the TEAS manuel. thanks. its like reading a foreign laguage to me.

You mean the adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine?

well not exactly but they give you an "rna codon chart" that looks something similar to this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cc/Codontable1.PNG

and this ask you a question like what is this saying or something and the multiple choice options are all letters like UUUAAACCCDDD...like i said im so lost so if ANYONE knows what this is plz help

The point of those charts is to show you which amino acid corresponds with which three letter RNA sequence. So, if you have, for instance, a UAU coding sequence, then you go to the left of the table (ignore your picture's 2nd base title; it's wrong; it has that switched with the top row), look for the row that has "U" in it, then go to the top of the table, look for the column that has "A" in it, then you go to the rows on the far right, and look for the one row in the box that contains your last "U". You line all of them up, and the exact row and column in which all three of them meet up is the spot that has the amino acid for which you're looking. In this particular case the amino acid that sequence corresponds to is tyrosine. It's just a deductive process.

Thank You all for the comments! I really appreciate it.

One thing I noticed was that most of you said that the chemistry made the science hard. What type of chem questions were there? Was it just about ionization, covalent, ionic, hydrogen bonds and balancing equations or was it deeper? Did it include finding the reactants and products in a chemical compound/formula?

Once again thanks!

I have been studying the ATI study guide for TEAS V and I did quite a bit better on the second practice test in that book than I did a week before on the first one. But tonight I paid for one of the online versions of the practice TEAS V and it was BY FAR AND AWAY more difficult. Wildly more difficult! I was so discouraged and demoralized. I take the real test on Friday morning and I am overwhelmed with how to approach preparing the next couple days. (I got about a 85% on the book's practice exam and only a 76% on the online one. And that is REALLY cutting it close to get into the school I'm applying to.) It's official: I'M FREAKING OUT!

I take my exam this friday too. We can do this. Keep studying!

Don't freak out I have read other threads that stated that the online test was a lot harder than the actual tests as a matter of fact I read at least about half a dozen people who scored in the high 70's on the online practice tests and scored in the high 80's on the actual test and one person scored in the 90's. So don't freak out

I can't tell you how much I needed to hear that. Thank you, Malefocker.

did you find out if there is anything on version V about food webs, and or plate boundaries? I know there were some questions in version 4.

Hi,

NO not at all. Honestly, everything that I saw on my exam IS in the TEAS V study manual. Just study the manual and you will do good! It's not "hard"...as long as you study the manual and keep testing yourself online through quizes, you will pass. Don't panick, like I did at first..stay focused, do the online ATI exams A & B if you can, do the practice exams on the study manual, buy the McGraw TEAS study guide as well or download it from here on this site, and thats all you need, really!

Awesome thank you carmen! I took version 4 so I have a pretty good idea of what to expect... I think I will do fine!
