Teas V Help

Published

hey!

i am scheduled to take the teas v exam towards the end of this month. i'm looking for some guidance and advice. also, i bought the ati study guide and online exams and was wondering how much harder/easier are the online exams compared to the real test? i am scoring around a 75 on the online practice tests and was wondering if my score would go up/down on the real exam.

thanks for your help!

i took the teas v 2 fridays ago..i wouldnt say it was difficult but i will tell you this TIME MANAGEMENT is a huge priority..in the math section i left like 6 questions unanswered bcuz time ran out...i suggest answering all the easy ones first then going back and spending time on the ones that take more time...i far as reading it was pretty much common sense, same for language..but the science is what killed it for me...i was soooooooo lost even tho i studied my ass off and knew the science portion of the TEAS in and out i still socred the worst in this section...i didnt bother to buy the practise exam but my friend did and she scored really well on the practise exam and did worst than me on the TEAS so i dunno everyones different...my overall percentile was a 66.7% which was garbage for the program that i was applying too so i gatta take it again...what program are you applying to?? hope this helped! good luck!

I have heard exactly opposite that the practice exam (online ones) were way harder than the actual TEAS and that people were scoring an average of 10 points better on the actual TEAS. I have heard that students taking the exams in the back of the study guide were scoring right around what they were scoring on the actual TEAS. There are a ton of threads about the TEAS V on here... you can get all the info you need! Good luck...

I've heard various responses to your question. For me, I simply took the test in the back of the TEAS V study guide and kept getting around 70 or 75. When I took the actual test, I made an 85. I wouldn't say that actual test was easier though. For me, it was similar to the tests in the back of the book.

In the pre-nursing forum there are a couple TEAS test sticky threads.. they are FULL of really great information. You can also do a search and you will find dozens and dozens of threads on this very topic.

I took this test in Jan. The reading comp is easy. I saved time by reading the questions first. Math you need to know how to do everything with fractions add subtract ect... Be able to convert fracs to deci. It was a word problem or three compairing which plan would cost u less money it was easy but if u don't read carefully easy to get wrong. Look at pages 75 - 77 in ATI study book. Page 83 - 85 is important know how to set up Ratios. Page 96 know what graph is used for what. The Science was hard but I've never taken chemistry. Look at page 114. Didn't see much on test about organ system. Saw one questions about blood flow. Read up on enzymes. Look at page 129 and 128. 131. It was a question about Immigration and emigration off of page 133. Look at page 139 about Cristae and golgi apparatus read pages 139 - 142. Know your punnett squares page 153. Know page 156. Didn't see a lot of parts of speech but study spelling and correct gramar. I hope this helps this is my first time posting on all nurses. This site helped me before I took my test I scored in the 80 percentile and got into my program. The pages I refer to are in the study guide from ATI for version V.

Posted it twice didn't know how to just delete it so I wrote this

I thought that the reading section was pretty difficult. I only scored an 88.1 on it, which put me in the 92nd percentile. And just to put that into a grander perspective, on my SAT I scored a 710 and on my ACT I got a 31 on the reading parts, which in case you don't know are really good scores (96th percentile and up for that year). So, yeah, TEAS V reading = hard. Practice as much as you can for that part. Everything else on the TEAS is pretty easy though, especially the math section. I got a perfect on it.

I guess it just depends on the person. I found the reading to be the easiest part and the chem part of the science very hard. English reading comp was always my thing and I've taken a lot of English in college. But in all the ATI book was great. I recently took the ACT and I felt like the english. Section was easier on this tes I had a lot of time left over on this test. Just my opinion

Yes, I think the hardest section was the reading!! And usually, I am pretty good with reading comp. sections..but this one was very confusing :( I got an 84.1% in that section, overall though. The math I didn't find that challenging..it wasn't super basic, but it wasn't asking the real complicated type of math you would find on the SAT or something lol. But I think if you have the ATI book, and review with that, you'll do just fine!! Good luck! :)

Thank You all for the comments! I really appreciate it.

One thing I noticed was that most of you said that the chemistry made the science hard. What type of chem questions were there? Was it just about ionization, covalent, ionic, hydrogen bonds and balancing equations or was it deeper? Did it include finding the reactants and products in a chemical compound/formula?

Once again thanks!
