TEAS V- Exemplary, Advanced, Proficient or Basic?

U.S.A. Maryland

I need to retake the TEAS V @ CCBC and they are not posting requirements other than scores Proficient or higher get accepted. I obviously want to get the highest score possible, but I also want to see where I stand.

If you wouldn't mind, please share your overall TEAS V score and if it was: Exemplary, Advanced, Proficient or Basic. I would really be grateful.

Thanks

Thank You! I found out about a month ago, and I'm going to a small college in Kansas. It was exciting news but also disappointing that none of the people that I had begun friendships with who were applying to the program were accepted. My mom is a nurse and her and her class were like family. But I'm still excited to see what's to come and meet new people I suppose! Good Luck to you!

I made a 97.5 overall. I'm not sure where that puts me, but I haven't been accepted anywhere yet. **shrugs** Guess my time hasn't come yet.

Hi,

I scored 54% today. A couple reasons, not excuses, why I believe I scored so low:

1. Unfortunately, I didn't attend much grade school although I really liked it when I did go.

2. At age 15, I had to keep paying bills so I finally dropped out of school (11th grade) and obtained a GED while still taking care of my siblings. The good thing is all my brothers and sisters (a lot lol)I'd taken care of are in college or have already graduated college.

3. I only had a week to study. Keep in mind, out of 12 years of grade school, I probably attended 4 (nonconsecutive). So I already knew it was going to be hard.

I took the TEAS V and past the English/Language and Reading portions. Math I did well on everything except algebra and geometry (I didn't take it in school). Science was horrible. I didn't take biology, chemistry, physics, etc in school either. I studied anatomy and physiology during my week's notice but everything I studied (that people said would be on the test) wasn't on the test.

The TEAS V (my version) had a total of 11 Human Body questions which consisted of (DNA, RNA, MRNA etc.) I had no clue. The other science questions were ridiculous (to me). I'd like to know how a cloud and brick can help with my potential nursing career? LMAO!!

English/Language, Reading, Spelling sections were not complicated to me.

Algebra, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth science etc. were very complicated because I'd never taken them during school.

It's hard to actually study for something that's broad because you never know what's on the test.

I'm in my late 20's. Am I bitter? Hell yes:mad:, because during the test, when I came across questions I didn't have an answers to, all I could think of was how "far behind" I felt and how my drug addict parent's kept me out of school only so I would take care of their responsibilities. No 5 yr old all the way up to 15 should have to deal with that.

Will I take the test over? Hell yes. I'm going to pass next time.

Just took another test for a different school and did very well. I'm IN. YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To answer someones question, I took a different test Wonderlic Basic Skills Test instead of re-taking the TEAS V (you have to wait 30 days to retake if you don't receive the required score for the program/school you're applying for).

To sum things up, unless you've taken chemistry, earth science and biology in school and you have a great memory, there's no way of knowing what's on the test or trying to study for those sections because the test is too broad. I pretty much guest on all earth science and chemistry questions (This is after studying for a week, 8 hours a day). I swear, the things I studied were nowhere on the test.

I read that TEAS V had more Anatomy/Physiology questions on the test. Well on my test I was asked questions about rocks, clouds, vinegar, lions blood, plant cells, and only had a few human biology questions about DNA (asking me to match the correct DNA, MRNA, RNA strands i.e. UTCC... ATTU etc. which I had to guess that as well.)

I've never taken algebra so know your algebra because there is a lot of it on TEAS V. Know how to solve algebraic word problems and you'll do okay. Someone like myself, who hasn't attended much school, is screwed unless you've learned by practicing yourself. Like I said before, a great FREE website is called Khan Academy here is the link: http://www.khanacademy.org/ He teaches, pretty much, everything you'd need to know for the test, except English.

Hi. For those who re-toke the TEAS V. Were the test questions exactly the same as the 1st time you took it?

It was different for me both times. I have heard of others that were lucky and got the same one; so there is more than one version. GOOD LUCK!

Hi all! I have read that the Barron and Kaplan books are good when you used them together. The only Barron's book I can find is from 2007, and the Kaplan one is 2009. Are these recent enough to have version V study guides? They seem kinda old.

Thanks for your help! :)

Just took the TEAS V for the first time. My scores were:

Reading: 95.2%

Math: 100%

Science: 93.8%

English & Language: 93.3%

Overall: 95.3% - Exemplary.

For those who are trying to study for the science, I would suggest going through and studying basic genetics (punnett squares, dominant/recessive genes), some chemistry (types of bonds, water molecules, types of reactions, balancing equations, pH-know your acids and bases), and cell biology (prokaryotes vs. eukaryotes, plants cells vs. animal cells, general functions of the organelles, basic transcription & translation). There was some earth science, but it was really easy - stuff that while I didn't know the exact answer to, I could reasonably use logic and basic knowledge to deduce the answer. My other piece of advice would be to go slow. If you don't know an answer, reread the question carefully - what is it really asking? Do you know anything related to the topic? Think about what you DO know as opposed to concentrating (and getting frustrated over) what you don't know, and hopefully you'll at least be able to eliminate a wrong answer or two and increase your odds of a right answer. Also- NEVER change your first answer :)

Hello justsyncopated,

Is the Science section material of the ATI book enough to prepare to do the exam?

I did not use the ATI book to prepare, so I wouldn't know. There are 3 free "practice tests" for the science portion floating around on the internet that I used to study the day before, and they were way more than sufficient.

Hello Justsyncopated,

Could you provide me link to the 3 free "practice test" that you used to prepare. I tried looking on the internet and can't find it. It will be very much helpful.

Thank you.
