84.7% on TEAS. Think I can make it to CSULB nursing program?

Hello everyone,

I'm applying for the CSULB Spring 2011 program and contemplating on whether or not I should retake the test. I got 80s and 90s on all the sections except science :(. I got a 66.7 there. Should I retake it or am I good to go? I am planning on applying for the next TEAS exam on Aug 12, which leads to my next question. I am aware that CSULB doesn't really care how many times you take the test, but is there some rule about how frequently it can be taken (for example, once per semester)? I couldn't find any info on that on their website and it's a little late to call them now.

Also, CSULB says that they look at the overall TEAS grade. Does this mean that they will only look at and care for that 84.7%? Or will they scrutinize each individual section and check my scores on them, and then take the overall score into account. I'm proud of all my section scores except science.

My science GPA is 3.0 and GE GPA 3.5. It's a little low, I know, but I hope it's enough to make it in.

What do you guys and gals think?

They must be, because they revised an application specifically for Spring 2012. If there wasn't going to be admissions for it, then they would have specifically said that applications for Spring 2012 transfers are no longer being accepted. I also spoke to the admissions counselor for their nursing program and she said that they ARE accepting nursing students. The only possible way that they may no longer be accepting is if our dumb ass governor decides to cut back more on education....which wouldn't surprise me. Goodluck guys!

Unfortunately, our governor & state legislature did approve a budget that will reduce CSU funding by $500 million for 2011 - 2012. Another $500 million reduction in state funding may occur if state tax extensions are not implemented. Current student tuition may increase by as much as 32%.

i'm deciding whether I should apply for the spring 2012. :/

I'm a csulb student, would it be easier for me to apply for the spring than fall? and are they accepting less transfers this spring?

yunnieling - As a current CSULB student, you should definitely apply during spring semesters. I'm not sure if transfer students will be accepted for spring 2012 but current CSULB students should have a better chance for acceptance anyways. Is there a reason that's preventing you from applying?

idk, i'm so stressed out. I just finished my first year of college, taking physiology and anatomy during the summer, and teas ... idk, people are telling how hard it is to get into the program, i thought if i apply in the spring without any transfers i can have a better chance of getting in. idkidkidkdi

You might as well apply! I'm applying so hope your GPA can compete against my 4.0 haha jk!!! Best of luck to you!

yunnieling - taking anatomy & physiology over summer might be difficult, therefore keep in mind maintaining a high science prereq GPA is important. But if you can do it, you should definitely apply for spring 2012. Odds are, you'll have a better chance for acceptance versus fall. That's the "perk" for being a current CSULB student so you should take advantage of it.

yea, I couldn't even get on the waitlist for both physio and anatomy, so my only chance is taking it during the summer. any advice on how I can get that A?

I'm a CSULB student as well. I was going to take them over the summer, but I had second thoughts and financial aid didn't cover enough of the costs. I heard mixed reviews about summer classes. Some say it's easier cause it's shorter and more condensed, while other say it's harder because it is shorter. You will have to devote time to study. I heard the physiology teacher is boring while the anatomy teacher is... well has an attitude... for a lack of better terms. Good luck though! At least you're not planning take all 3 biology classes in the fall like me!

if i could get in, I would rather take them all in one semester. haha... do you guys have any advice on the TEAS test?

Yeah, study... ATI TEAS book is super thorough

Hey Everyone -

I am going to ATTEMPT to apply for spring 2012... that is if they do decide to accept transfers.. my score is 8.764.. which I know is right around the cutoff and probably impossible for a transfer to make it in - but I thought I'd try just incase they magically decide to accept unlimited transfers for spring. (wishful thinking )

I've been on the wait list for SMC's ADN program since last year, and will hopefully be invited to start that program in Spring. I live 8 blocks away from their nursing campus, so if I don't get into LB it just means less of a commute in exchange for a BSN vs ADN.

If I end up not yet getting invited to start SMC's program in Spring, I was thinking about attending CSULB part time and reapplying for the nursing program in Fall, hoping to be a more attractive candidate, seeing as I will already be a CSULB student. What do you guys think?
