Hello everyone!
I'm taking the TEAS test tomorrow morning, and I was just wondering what your experiences were with this test, and if you have any advice? I am particularly nervous about the science portion (chemistry). Also, how is the critical thinking portion? Any feedback will be appreciated!

I wouldn't worry so much about the chemistry. Actually a lot of the science portion was common sense type physics questions. I would say concentrate on your math. Try looking up this subject on allnurses, because we have posted on this before. Definitely purchase the study guide. The worst part of the math is doing the work on paper and having enough time to complete the problems. On the reading comprehension portion you are likely not to finish in the allotted time. My advice is with less than two minutes to spare just click on answers, because they won't be held against you. I actually got several right doing this and it is better than having several undone. The key is to use any remaining time to go over your answers on that given section. It does happen on a couple sections, such as spelling and grammar. Go through read the passages with your answers input and actually see how much it makes sense. You will do fine, and remember you are likely to do worse if you don't relax. I have taken it twice and made an 89.4 both times. I am thinking about taking it for my third and final time. Other than physics on the science portion, I would review metal conductors, basic anatomy, and just basics. There is a site online that I stumbled on and I felt it was just as good as the book in preparing me. I hope some of this helps...best wishes!

Don't spend too much time on one question, especially the math portion. Time goes very quickly there! If you are hanging up on one question, skip it and you may be able to answer 3 or 4 in the time you would have wasted worrying about the hard one. Then, if you have time to go back after you finish, before time is over, then work it. Always bubble in, even if it is a guess. Don;t leave any of them empty. Good luck! I think you will see it isn;t as difficult as you think it is now. The study guide and practice tests on ATI helps too.

well, you've taken it by now, hope it went well. for anyone else taking it I would echo other responses, relax and look for the best answer, take your time! don't worry about any sections, if you feel like you did poorly just go on to the next section and do the best you can. and eat something before the test! I forgot to do this with a WST test and had to rush through the last section cause I was STARVING

I just took the TEAS and shockingly passed. I'm a senior citizen and didn't study at all because we just started the TEAS and I had already been accepted in the program. That being said, I did worse in Science than math and I do agree about not spending to much time on the math because time goes pretty quickly. What I did near the end is to check 'c' for all of the ones I didn't know or didn't have time to work on. Better to take a chance by filling in something than nothing.
Well, I took the test and scored a 90.1...99th percentile both nationally and for my program! I didn't do quite as well for my science section (70.1), but I'm hoping my overall score will make up for it! I'll find out in about 3 weeks whether or not I got into my nursing program. Thanks for your replies!

I didn't pay attention to what your age was, not that it matters to me, but in reference to the test, you may be a little less intimidated than I was being that I have been out of school for almost 22 years. I felt like a somewhat intelligent person when I went in to take it and much less intelligent when I left. But, take comfort in knowing, that despite my deflated ego about my intelligence, I did pass. I felt like the math and science were my worst areas, the other two parts did not stress me out at all. I am sure you will be fine. It sounds as though you have done some prep, I did none at all except to refresh my memory in basic algerbra and there were maybe one or two questions that applied. I'm sure your prep will give you a great advantage. RELAX:bugeyes:

My best advice is go to atitesting.com and buy the package for 2 online tests & the study book. Take 1 test and gauge your skills, study the book (focusing where you need to focus on) and then take test 2 (same questions unfortunately) and see your new improvements.
I had a 62% on test 1, used the book and did very well on the book tests and then an 85 on the final real TEAS. (which puts me in the 2nd highest bracket for my program).
Chemistry is not a requirement for our RN programs so I wasn't overly depressed over my amazing 40% in chemistry. I am taking chem 1 this semester to help me in pharm.
Good luck!!
Also, if you're really anxious.. a chem for dummies book can help. There are ooooodddllessss of lecture notes and stuff online for that though, use google before you go to B&N.

I'm sure you already took the test, but in case you need it or for people who need it, my advice is to go over the study manual and if you can, you might want to think about buying those two online practice tests. Honestly, I took advantage of everything available, so I don't actually know what helped me and what didn't.... I just STUDIED!! And I studied and took the test during summer, while I had no school. I ended up being in the 94th percentile, which for my nursing program, I've heard that it's the highest score.
The chemistry is very very basic chemistry... which is the atomic number vs. atomic mass on the periodic table?-type of question. Really really basic. Also, the physics was not too bad either. I was freaking out about physics because I've never taken a physics class...all the physics I had was in the manual! But I did well... 100% (I have no idea how! lol). Just do the questions in the manual. Also, the online practice test was great in that it's actually a lot harder (I thought so, anyway) than the real TEAS test, which pushed me to strengethen my weak areas. I think that had a lot to do with how I ended up with such a high score. Hope it went well...and for everyone else, good luck!
