  1. we have to wear all white!! very nerve wrecking couple of days!! so nerve wrecking in fact that you will ALWAYS find time to make it to the bathroom. just don't wait till the last min cuz you can get caught up easily ?
  2. well, i don't work but i do have an extra kid , so i do know what it's like. it's hard but do-able. first off, accept help, it's hard and it's an adjustment but you'll get used to it! you are so lucky to have live in support, it makes a huge difference! i have a 2 and 5 year old and honestly i thought i would miss them sooo much more. it's true, nursing has to be the priority but your son will always be there. you'll just need to learn to study while he plays around you, that way you two will be together AND you'll be getting your work done. tell your parents how you feel and thank them...and then don't let being a burden consume your mind anymore! it's only 2 years (not even that if you have summers off!!) for the last year i pretty much have said goodby to my family that i don't live with, but you can never say goodby to those you live with, especially a demanding 3 year old...he won't let you =) it will be hard and at times you will cry but nursing school is soooo fun!!!! congrats and enjoy your time with your boy this summer!!
  3. everything you hear is true, only thing is you cannot fully understand it until you experience it. it is so hard but so fun! the amount of info you are expected to learn is insane. what makes it hard there is not enough time to do everything expected of you: skills that need to be learned in exact order, medications that need to be memorized, thousands of pages that need to be read (never fully accomplish this one), lecture notes that need to be reviewed and memorized, papers to be written(in a very strict format), dosage caculations that need to be perfected, group teaching projects, preparation for clinical time, clinical time (easiest part!), patient care plans, discharge paper work, study groups, and some serious critical thinking! add to that sleep, eating, and any family time and your about -40 hours a week...yay for nursing school!!! can you tell i'm a little overwhelmed right now
  4. i had the same problem two days ago...my bell was turned the wrong way and i couldn't hear anything out of the side i was listening to, very frusterating. my teacher didn't teach us the basics of a stethoscope and i had no idea the bell even turned. if your ever confused just look in your book or google it, that's how i figured it out.
  5. it's a volunteer internship that they have at some hospitals in CA...maybe other states, not sure
  6. i'm in the same boat. hoping i'll be able to finish the required year, even though i'll be in my first semester of nursing school. i'm afraid i might feel like my time is being wasted there when i could be studying or spending time with my family instead. one things for sure, no more extra shifts for me!
  7. i haven't started school yet ( first day is later today!), but i do a volunteer internship at the hospital and every time i'm there i run the stairs (9 floors) at least three times, more if it's a slow day. it only takes a few minutes each time but it's a great mini workout. hopefully they'll have stairs at my clinical site!
  8. i wouldn't stress too much if i were you. they say acceptance is tight but from my experience they will accept you if you are really interested in a career in the medical field. i've been a cce for about 6 months and i love it! the time commitment is very small and you get to do a ton of stuff. in your interview they want to know that you can be assertive and take direction, so show it. they'll give you fake situations and have you tell how you would react. also, there is an essay question. mine had to do with the biggest problem facing the medical community today, so they are questions like that. don't stress it, remember to bring a pen and dress to impress! and don't forget how bad they need you, cce's do so much free work in the hospital, so it's really them that need you and not the other way around =). what town are you applying in? good luck!!
  9. well, the wait was probably half of what they said it would be and it is supposed to be a really good nursing school. it's a good choice for me because it's close ( i can't relocate due to family), cheap, and one of the best programs in the state.
  10. is anyone else getting totally freaked out by this thread and thinking could this be me??? i don't have periods cuz i'm still breastfeeding my baby, although 18 months really isn't a baby anymore, is it? noticed my pre prego pants are now getting tight again, hmmm. i took a test back in feb, not cuz i thought i was prego but just to be sure i wasn't before i got my mmr, of course it was neg. i think i'm just trippin, i feel way to good to be prego...i think???
  11. I started about 3 months ago. I'm in CA and there is a clinical care extender program here and it's really hands on. We are allowed to do a ton of stuff (with the nurses permission) and basically do everything except chart and dispense meds. I'm so glad I can do this before I start school, I think it will really give me a step up. I don't know where you are but if your in CA you should look into it.
  12. I'm just got my acceptance letter for next semester and I'm trying to figure out what the hours will be like at palomar college for 1st semester of nursing. Anyone have any ideas???
  13. i keep hearing about a book you can get a library...indymom4, what is the book called that you got and did you get it at the public library or college library?thanks...taking test in about a month and ready to review.
  14. I was wondering if you knew what site it was that you stumbled on that you thought was a good review?
