I guess it depends on the unit and the nurses. With all the changes our unit has had to make lately we wouldn't make it without teamwork. We just help each other out when needed. Maybe you can help guide the nurses on the floor into being a better unit. If you help them, maybe they will help you. I don't know. I have been pulled to units that didn't seem to have a lot of teamwork. I thought maybe it was because I was the odd man out so to speak. Hope it gets better.
it depends on the unit, so no, i do not agree. the cardiac step-down unit (and i hear the icu and nicu) at my hospital are very team oriented. if you work those units even as a float nurse there are many who will watch your back even if you do not ask. within the er on day shift of my current hospital's ed, there is no team work unless you are apart of the dominating click! however, the night shift has a reputation of helping others despite any friendships (i floated on both shifts a few times and think a lot of the night crew)!
The teamwork on our unit at night is awesome...we ask each other questions, help out with boosts, take other patients to bathrooms, fix IVs, etc....the day shift...pffffff. No teamwork at all, sink or swim. I couldn't have made it through without the help some nights. depends on the unit, culture, etc.

Does it seem that nurses in the ER are more for teamwork and working together than nurses on the floor? I work part time in the er and have also done floor nursing, it seems the nurses in the ER are closer knit and help each other out more then those that work on the floor. Does anyone agree??
