Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hey everybody! I am planning on applying to TWU and TCU for the year 2020 and I am curious how competitive my stats are. I have 2.5 years experience in the CV/CICU at a Magnet teaching hospital. My overall GPA is 3.5. GRE 309 ( 306 V 303 Q 4.0). I have my BLS, PALS, ACLS, CCRN-CSC-CMC. What are my chances of getting in?

Hi, do you mind if I ask you a few questions about the TCU program and how the semesters are broken down? I just interviewed with them this morning and had a few questions. I have read so many forums and read their site but I'm just trying to get it all straight in my head! ?

no I don’t mind at all. I’ll try my best to answer

Okay thank you! I was curious about how the semesters are broken down. Like when on campus classes start and end and when the clinical portion begins and do you get a break between each semester? Also, when do they notify you of what your enrichment/out rotations sites are?

So you start classes the upcoming Spring after interview/acceptance. Classes are all online the first Spring and Summer semesters then on campus class starts in the fall (except this year cause of COVID we have hybrid/all online option for the fall). I had a week off between end of Spring and start of Summer semester and it’ll be roughly two weeks off between end of this Summer semester and the start of fall semester. Residency/clinical doesn’t start until the second fall semester. It was broken down to us as 20 months “classroom” first and 16 months “residency/clinical”.

When you receive your acceptance letter it’ll tell you what city you’re assigned to for residency but it doesn’t specify exactly what hospitals you’ll be rotating through (if your city has multiple primary or secondary sites) for example my assigned sites will be in Fort Worth which has multiple options for primary and secondary sites.

Im only a first year so I’m still not aware of my specifics sites.

Hope that helps.

Okay yes that does help alot! Thank you for taking the time to answer these for me! Were you already from the fort worth area? I'm from north Louisiana, I actually work in monroe, and they asked how close I live to monroe and Shreveport and would I be willing to do clinical there since that's 2 sites near me. I told them of course I would bc I'm honestly willing to go anywhere if I get in! I'm going to rank all forth worth sites as my top picks, however, because I'll be moving there for the in class portion (if I get in) with my son and husband and he planned on getting a new job in the area. I'd hate to uproot again and make him get another job if we came back to La but I understand that's definitely a possibility.

I wasn’t from the Fort Worth area I just ranked it as my number 1 since I was having to relocate for the in class portion and I didn’t want to have to move again like you stated! Did they not have you rank your top 7 cities (which is how they made us rank instead of actual sites) before your interview? Because that’s what I had to do the day of the interview when I arrived...I told them I was cool with going anywhere except Alaska which was an option LOL

LOL yeah Alaska would be a no go! We have to rank our top 7 tonight. They said they would send a link once they finished interviews each day.

Hello do you mind if I ask you how many years of neuro ICU experience you had before you applied? I am from neuro ICU too.  I wonder if neuro ICU is as much accepted as other icus ? thank you so much!

1.5 years...and they told us our class breakdown which was I think 22 CVICU 19 MSICU 7ish neuro etc etc....no other specialty had higher than ten outside of CVICU and MSICU! If that helps...
