TCU CRNA program for January 2017

Published

Hello all,

I am working on submitting my application for the 2017 CRNA program at TCU. Feel free to post questions, words of encouragement, and any advice you may have as we start this journey. Looking forward to meeting you all!

I'm from Texas and work in a CVICU x4 years with postop hearts, ECMO and LVAD experience, only nursing experience besides nurse aide/tech while in school.

I'm jealous of your ECMO experience! We have had to transfer patients out to a bigger facility on a couple of occasions. So my exposure is limited to when their ECMO team comes down and starts treatment before transport.

I'm from Oklahoma, 2 years in CVICU. Recovering open hearts and valves for the past 8 months. Lots of experience with balloon pumps and our physicians are starting to use the Impella left ventricular assist device as well. I also worked for 3 years as a paramedic prior to nursing.

301 on the GRE with a 4 on writing.

4.0 BSN, 3.27 overall

Specializes in Med-Surg ICU.

I'm jealous of your ECMO experience as well. The same thing applied to my facility where we would cannulate, but then they would typically be shipped out (except for the couple rare occasions, but that was mostly in our CVICU).

I'm from Texas as well, and I've been in a mixed med/surg ICU for 2 years since graduating nursing school. Lots of experience with an array of devices except LVADs. 305/4.0 on the GRE and a 3.75 overall GPA. Involved in committees at my hospital, code/rapid response RN, preceptor, and involved in the local AACN chapter. I also am a clinical TA for nursing students part-time at the university in town. I'm hoping my extracurriculars overshadow my limited experience and my lackluster science GPA from undergrad.

Hi everyone, I am applying for the 2017 class as well. I have most of my stuff submitted but they have lost my certifications and one of my letters of recommendation which is making me nervous.

I am from VA but love and have always wanted to live in Texas. I work in a Trauma I center in their Pediatric ICU with lots of cardiovascular, neuro, trauma, and surgical patients so a good mix of everything.

I have applied a few other places but am nervously counting down the days till we hear about interviews!

Wow, I think your involvement will be beneficial to your resume for sure.

Glad to see everyone is getting their stuff submitted! To answer and earlier question in the thread I have had a completed application since early April and have not heard anything about interview yet. Like most have sai, early to mid July seems to be when we will be emailed. I have 3 1/2 years of Trauma ER experience along with 1 1/2 years of Mixed ICU. Aka my unit is not separated so can have neuro, trauma, cardiac, med/surg. So get to work with ballon pumps, LVAD, ventriculostomy drains, CRRT, but no ecmo. Also have started training on CVICU. I would suggest getting shadow experience if you can. Grades are good and help get you noticed, but knowing what CRNA's do and drugs that they use might be helpful. I have about 130 hours of shadow experience between mission trips and shadowing experience. Most CRNA students that I talk to at my facility say it's a whole new world and everything you know now will change. I forgot to mention that I am from MS but wife is from Dallas and wants to move back that way. Good luck everyone!
