Hello everyone! I have submitted my application for TCU's Accelerated BSN program. I am getting ready to take the HESI A2 next week and my file will be 100% complete. I have been checking allnurses.com frequently to see if there are any other TCU 2012 hopefuls, but haven't come across anyone yet! Are you out there?? If so, lets start talking!! :)
A little about me...I have been working as a medical sales representative for close to 10 years. I have worked in pharma, device, disposables, biotech, services, and specialty pharmacy. Throughout the years, my love for the medical industry has only increased until one day I decided to take the plunge and start my pre-requisites. Now with them completed, I am looking into TCU (first choice), El Centro (2nd choice, only have one additional pre-req to take) and UTA (still have 6, yes, 6 pre-requisites to take and doubtful I will be able to apply by for the Fall 2012 start class, perhaps the spring 2013). I live in Lantana (outside of Flower Mound) so I will be commuting each day to the school I get accepted to (fingers crossed).
So that's my story! What is yours??
Has anyone else gotten their actual nursing acceptance letter in the mail yet? I saw that some people received theirs late last week and I was hoping mine would come in the mail today but it didn't. I mean, I already know I got in because I spoke to *******, but I'm still anxious to get the letter so I can take the next step and make my deposits and all that...
Also, does anyone know if we are eligible for any financial aid as second degree students? I've never gotten any help via the FAFSA in all my prereqs (since I graduated with my first degree anyway) because of it, even though I should qualify financially for aid, so I was wondering if anyone else had any additional input? I assume at this point the best we can do is apply for as many scholarships and grants as possible and then take loans for the rest, but I just wondered what everyone else's thoughts were about this. Thanks.
When I spoke to ***** today she said she was sending out my acceptance letter today. I would think that means they would be sending them out to everyone today.
We get aid as in loans as second degree students. No grants due to being second degree students. The only reason I can think that you wouldn't have gotten aid in the form of loans in your pre reqs is if you took them at a junior college or you were not enrolled at least part time.
Thanks for the info about the letters - hopefully they will come soon. :)
Also, I meant financial aid. I know I can get a loan, and I've already applied for some scholarships, but I was talking about government aid that you apply for via FAFSA, etc. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I tend to ramble sometimes. :)
Well I got my letter today and I got in! Pretty excitied at the moment. I live in flower mound and I'm down to do the cpr class where ever and with who ever. Just need to vet it done sooner than later. Look forward to maybe carpooling with some of you guys if possible? And meeting you as well.My name is Sammy and my email is [email protected] if anyone would like to get in touch. Oh not that it matters but thought I would let everyone know that I am of the male gender.
The government aid via FASFA has loans and grants. We cannot get the grants, but can get the loans. Sorry, also, if I was confusing. Sometimes it is hard to understand and explain things through text instead of in person. I wish we could still get grants, but they do not let second degree students get them. Still, the FASFA loans, stafford and perkins, are the best loans you can get for school.
I did some research about CPR classes today. Harris Methodist in Fort Worth has them for $40 which includes the manual and the certification card fee. They have them almost every Monday. It is from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm because they break for lunch. I am going to take it there on March 12th unless the group course that another member was talking about works out. I work for a college so I will be on spring break during this time.
Hooray, Sammy!! So glad you called me tonight and posted your acceptance!! :)
As for the BLS course the fire department offered to do for us, I thought it would be fun to do it together as an opportunity to meet each other prior to orientation and get to know each other. Maybe we could even grab drinks, lunch or dinner afterwards??
I have 6 people who have said they want to do the course. Please let me know if you would prefer a week night or weekend.
I would like to get it locked in for either the last week in February or March.
Congratulations everyone!! :)
As for the $500 deposit to TCU (not the nursing deposit), I recall seeing it in my initial acceptance letter to TCU, but I can't find my paperwork to confirm. I was going to call the admissions office in the am and see what they have to say. I will post on here if I uncover anything.

For those who still need their Healthcare Provider CPR class, a friend of mine and I took it from an individual who is certified through AHA and does it for a lot of TCU students. If you tell her you go to TCU, the discount is really good. I think it was only $30!
