TCU ABSN 2012

Published

Hello everyone! I have submitted my application for TCU's Accelerated BSN program. I am getting ready to take the HESI A2 next week and my file will be 100% complete. I have been checking allnurses.com frequently to see if there are any other TCU 2012 hopefuls, but haven't come across anyone yet! Are you out there?? If so, lets start talking!! :)

A little about me...I have been working as a medical sales representative for close to 10 years. I have worked in pharma, device, disposables, biotech, services, and specialty pharmacy. Throughout the years, my love for the medical industry has only increased until one day I decided to take the plunge and start my pre-requisites. Now with them completed, I am looking into TCU (first choice), El Centro (2nd choice, only have one additional pre-req to take) and UTA (still have 6, yes, 6 pre-requisites to take and doubtful I will be able to apply by for the Fall 2012 start class, perhaps the spring 2013). I live in Lantana (outside of Flower Mound) so I will be commuting each day to the school I get accepted to (fingers crossed).

So that's my story! What is yours?? :nurse:

Got mine today - I was thrilled but sad at the same time because I am not sure its the school for me due to costs and time commitment with a family. Just trying to figure out the logistics of being at TCU so early in the morning threw me for a loop. I may need to hire a live in nanny to help out since my husbands travels so much. The cost of the nanny and tuition is overwhelming me right now and I am considering less expensive but longer program. Are most students without families? Has anyone changed their mind in the last few months after comparing programs? Let me know......I loved the acceptance letter and idea of being a TCU nursing student and thrilled beyond belief but reality has set in now.

Opinions welcomed.....

Yep!!!! read my later post - having kids definitely makes it harder! Let me know how you will manage the long days. Do you have help from family? Will you hire a nanny?

I received my letter today as well! I'm pretty excited! My friend got hers in too, we both took our CPR class a month ago in Ft. Worth for $30 and she does alot of TCU students.

IHOP you are NOT alone!! I have a three year old son and just recently lost my job. I am praying for my award package to arrive in the mail soon so I can start calling lenders (loans at this point are my only hope to help my husband and I pay for this program). I have spoken to a couple friends of mine who have graduated from nursing school at TWU and UTA and let’s just say they "highly disagree" with the cost associated with this program:(. What I really like about the program is that it's only 15 intense months… come to think of it—next summer we will be DONE!!:nurse:

As far as family – we don’t have family members close by to help us out with our son. I am terrified to think what will happen on days when “J” is sick (can’t stay at daycare), I have exams/clinicals and my husband has a mandatory meeting/ late shift!! That I am very worried about, since I was always the one to say home with him 1-2 even 3 days in a row.

Just like you, reality hit me and I started doubting myself (can I do this? what if I fail? What if I have to drop out? etc.) Thankfully, I have a wonderful husband and a very supportive group of friends (who are nurses) that encourage me not to give up. After all its true, we ALL worked very hard to get to this point and deserve this opportunity.

We can do this!! Its only 15 months of the rest of our lives.... Congratulations to all who have recently been accepted:yeah:

-Monica

taraewell: Congratulations on your acceptance :yeah: I too live in Keller, I live off Ray White and Heritage Parkway... are you close by?

Yeah I am behind the home depot and micheals off 377 in the older homes:) I am newly married! It would be awesome to get together all of us close by and even save some gas if we are in the same clinical group:) email me at [email protected] mlozao:)

I Hop and mlozao my phone deleted ur emails:( can u resend them please?

I am a single mother with a 4 year old. My fiance and his family are extremely supportive, however. He is a graduate of TCU, 2008, so he has been familiarizing me with the school. I am hoping that my decision letter will come today!

Okay - for the students with children. How long will day care stay open? Will we stay the entire time at school until 6 and later on Friday. I am a little worried I may not get back in time to pick them up when my husband is traveling. I guess I would need to hire a nanny instead to pick up the kids after school. I have school age children. My husband does not want me to go to TCU and consider TCC instead. I did not apply for financial aid because I thought there was none available to us because we have bachelor degrees. Are there award package available through TCU?

Please dismiss the post I wrote. I just found a post on the hours and the day normally ends at 4pm but starts at 8am. I should be fine and don't see an issue.

Hi Shiner50,

I received my acceptance letter a few days ago and am very excited. I have a few questions I'd like to ask you if you could PM me. I'm not real familiar with allnurses.com so I thought that would be easier to ask you through the messaging system.

Thanks!!

Stacy
