TCU ABSN 2012

Published

Hello everyone! I have submitted my application for TCU's Accelerated BSN program. I am getting ready to take the HESI A2 next week and my file will be 100% complete. I have been checking allnurses.com frequently to see if there are any other TCU 2012 hopefuls, but haven't come across anyone yet! Are you out there?? If so, lets start talking!! :)

A little about me...I have been working as a medical sales representative for close to 10 years. I have worked in pharma, device, disposables, biotech, services, and specialty pharmacy. Throughout the years, my love for the medical industry has only increased until one day I decided to take the plunge and start my pre-requisites. Now with them completed, I am looking into TCU (first choice), El Centro (2nd choice, only have one additional pre-req to take) and UTA (still have 6, yes, 6 pre-requisites to take and doubtful I will be able to apply by for the Fall 2012 start class, perhaps the spring 2013). I live in Lantana (outside of Flower Mound) so I will be commuting each day to the school I get accepted to (fingers crossed).

So that's my story! What is yours?? :nurse:

Quick question...maybe Shiner50 can answer.Do we need to take a basic CPR course or is it the BLS course? I'm trying to get this knocked out in the next few weeks. Thanks for your help!!

Hi Everyone-

I was waiting to see if anyone else heard by phone from TCU before posting. ******* called me last week to ask a prereq question and then said, "by the way, I thought I would let you know that you have been accepted!" I was really surprised that she gave the information out over the phone, but was very pleased! I'm still waiting to hear from Duke...should hear next week, before I decide what to do. It's a hard decision because both are great schools, Duke would be a big move, but TCU would be a big commute from Dallas! I guess I will just wait to hear before I put too much energy into trying to figure it out.

Did any of you apply to other schools? Is TCU your first choice? I don't feel like I have as much information on the program as I have about Duke...they had us come out for a full day of information and interviews. Do any of you know more about TCU than the website or long ago informational meeting supplied? I'd be interested to hear more.******* transferred me to the Dean to set up a meeting, but I haven't heard back yet. I want to make an informed decision!!

Congrats to everyone who was accepted!!!

Congrats everyone!

JAMSALEStoRN - you need BLS for healthcare providers (that's what we had to take, anyway).

Congratulations, everyone! This is all so exciting! In the handbook (yes, I read the dang handbook already - that's how excited I am! P.S. you can find it on the website if you're interested!) it just says that we have to take a CPR certification course for health care professionals.

jpw4200 - That is a tough decision! From everything I've heard, and from all the current/past students I've talked to, everyone seems to think the TCU program is great and well worth the money. I've heard about small class sizes, positive clinical experiences, more than competent instruction, access to helpful resources, etc. The ONLY negative thing I have ever heard anyone say is that occasionally there can be some lapse in organization in the administrative aspect of things...but, from my experience that's true of every school I've ever attended...so I'm not worried. Also, it just teaches you to take responsibility for your own self and make sure you're covered at every corner. Other than that, everyone I've talked to has nothing but great things to say! Good luck in deciding, that's a hard choice!

As for me, TCU was my first choice simply because of the fact that it's a faster program (I'm ready to get out and start working!), and also because I went to a private school for my first degree and so I would've had to take a lot more prereqs in order to apply to UTA or any other non-private school. I also looked into TWU, but didn't want to move or commute to Denton. Also I had a somewhat negative experience when I went to meet with an advisor out there that really turned me off of their program. Anyways, hope any of this helps!

Wow May 4th for our orientation! That will be here before we know it! Any other info anyone has that's not readily available on the website, etc., please share it here so we can all be as informed as possible! Thanks to everyone who's already posted helpful info for the rest of us! Does anyone know if we have to pay a separate deposit to TCU (aside from the one to hold our nursing seat?). I'm pretty sure we do, but I'm not sure.

Anyways, I'll stop rambling I'm just super psyched. :)

Thanks, good to know!

That was to Shiner, by the way!

******* said that there are two deposits...one to TCU for $500 and one to nursing for $500. I guess someone else heard that the nursing amount was $400. But she definitely said that there were two separate deposits.

Ok thanks, jpw4200! That's what I thought!

Has anyone looked into loans? Grants? Scholarships? If so, any insight would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am wondering how many of us have kiddos and planning on quitting our day job??

I can't deny that I am excited, but equally stressed about the financial portion to this program. Anyone feel the same way?? :uhoh21:

Has anyone who has been accepted looked on my.tcu.edu website to see if their letters have been sent? I tried calling ******* and of course she is indeed out of town like someone said! I am so nervous and anxiously awaiting the mailman's arrival. I hate the waiting period. Good luck to those who haven't received confirmation yet. I almost wish I hadn't seen that some of you know yet.

taraewell - Where did you see this on myTCU about your letter being sent? Mine has not said anything different since it came up with "Congratulations on your admission! We look forward to welcoming you into the horned frog family!" on my homepage (in reference to getting into TCU in general back in December).

mlozao - I am definitely stressed about the financial portion, but I'm coming to terms with the idea that I'm probably going to just be in debt for a loooonnng time after I graduate...

I just really need to find out what time the Orientation is on May 4th. The family and I already have reservations for a week in Orlando. We were scheduled to fly out on the 3rd. Naturally, I will need to change my flight arrangements but need to know what time the orientation is scheduled/duration.

I called the office today and ******* is out for the rest of the week. ***** was unable to confirm the orientation date and indicated I would need to talk with *******. Does anyone know if there is someone else in the office who could provide clarification? I have only worked with Frances.

I scheduled my BLS course today. For those of you that need to do this, check with you local fire departments first. There are several outside agencies in the DFW area that provide the certification. However, I found they were more expensive than the fire department of only $45 compared to $65-75 @ places I researched.

I am fortunate on the financial side as I am using my VA benefits to fund the costs and expenses. I am very nervous about living on only one income as we have always been a dual income family. My job requirs extensive travel so there is no way I can keep it. I am looking into perhaps doing 10 hours of work study through the VA to have a little pocket change! :)

I am excited when new people post to let us know of their acceptance and I can't wait to meet all of you!! :)

Shiner50: can you give us some additional insight on what orientation entails and what the summer session was like for you? Also any tips on gear (stethoscope, scrubs, etc) and need to have items or things you wish you would have known coming into the program? Oh and can you purchase the supplies @ the bookstore or did you use outside vendors? You have been a tremendous resource!

Thanks so much!
