TCU ABSN 2012

Published

Hello everyone! I have submitted my application for TCU's Accelerated BSN program. I am getting ready to take the HESI A2 next week and my file will be 100% complete. I have been checking allnurses.com frequently to see if there are any other TCU 2012 hopefuls, but haven't come across anyone yet! Are you out there?? If so, lets start talking!! :)

A little about me...I have been working as a medical sales representative for close to 10 years. I have worked in pharma, device, disposables, biotech, services, and specialty pharmacy. Throughout the years, my love for the medical industry has only increased until one day I decided to take the plunge and start my pre-requisites. Now with them completed, I am looking into TCU (first choice), El Centro (2nd choice, only have one additional pre-req to take) and UTA (still have 6, yes, 6 pre-requisites to take and doubtful I will be able to apply by for the Fall 2012 start class, perhaps the spring 2013). I live in Lantana (outside of Flower Mound) so I will be commuting each day to the school I get accepted to (fingers crossed).

So that's my story! What is yours?? :nurse:

I called this morning! I got in!! Thank you soo much for the heads up! I would be losing a lot more sleep otherwise. ******* said that the official letters won't go out for another week or so due to changes in their system. She also mentioned a deposit to hold our space in the program (around $400) as well as at the school. Do any of you know the exact start date of the program? I'm out in California, but I'd love to get to know you guys. Any suggestions on affordable areas to live?

JAMSALEStoRN - Thanks! I live in the Hulen area, about 15 minutes from TCU, so I am pretty pleased about all of this, haha. I know what you mean, I'm so excited and want to go out and buy everything, but it's best to hold off until we know exactly what they want us to get. I already have a stethoscope that my father-in-law got me for Christmas (he's a doctor and he was excited haha), but I don't know if they want you to have a specific one or color, so I may have to put mine away until I graduate, who knows. Also, do we still have to have titers drawn if we have all of our immunization records?

77frankienheit - Congratulations! Can't wait to meet you! What made you decide to come to TX for school? Also, I'm pretty sure I know what the "changes in the system" are that are delaying the letters being sent out - when I called yesterday and spoke to *******, she wanted to confirm my address and when she checked it she realized that there was some error in their spreadsheet and the addresses were matched up incorrectly I guess. I'm not sure exactly what the issue was, but I wonder if that's what she was referring to. She told me she was really glad I called and she caught it! Anyways, not sure if that's the "changes," but may be... As far as affordable places to live, I live about 15 minutes from the TCU campus in the Hulen/Cityview area and there are a lot of apartments over here with a wide range of prices. I would get on apartmentfinder.com and look around and see what you could find. Southwest Ft. Worth is a big area and there's a ton of places to live! Good luck, and if you find a place and want to know if it's in a good area, please let me know and I can maybe help you out!

-Erin (I feel like it's about time you knew my actual name! :))

Hello all,

I am new to this site, but very excited to see we all share the same questions and concerns. Congratulations to those of you who have been accepted:yeah: I too, have been accepted!!!

A little about me: I graduated from TWU last August with a degree in Health Studies. While in college I worked as a Pharmacy Technician and have been a Health Education Coordinator for the past 6 months. I'm currently completing 3 pre-rqus (Religion, Literature, Philosophy). Can't wait for the official letter in the mail!!!

Anyone know how many of us were accepted?? Just curious to see what the stats look like this year.

Can't wait to meet you all :)

Erin,I only have to have titers drawn because the Army lost my medical records. I have nothing to demonstrate I have been vaccinated. So, titers it is!!Not sure of the exact date we start.******* once told me it was based on the dates that the accepted students complete their pre-reqs.

Erin,I only have to have titers drawn because the Army lost my medical records. I have nothing to demonstrate I have been vaccinated. So, titers it is!!Not sure of the exact date we start. Frances once told me it was based on the dates that the accepted students complete their pre-reqs. Can't give much help on the places to live. I live in Lantana, close to Flower Mound so I will have a 35-40 minute commute. My husband I and just moved from CA a little over 2 years ago. My husband was born and raised in San Jose. One day we would like to go back! He and I are scuba divers and we really miss the ocean. So, I think we are up to 5 people on here with acceptance so far. Hope we can rally up some more people. :)Let's keep posting so we can get to know each other better! We should link up and have a little celebration mixer for getting in!!My name is Jene' (pronounced like Renee with a J)

I think a celebration mixer would definitely be a good plan! Let's give it a couple more weeks and see who else turns up on here and we can start planning to meet each other! :)

In the mean time, getting to know each other...Jene', your life sounds like it has been very exciting! The Army, scuba diving, living in California...Wow! Also, I wouldn't worry about your commute - chances are we're all going to be driving all over the place for clinical sites anyway!

As for me, I grew up here in Fort Worth and then moved off to Tennessee for my first degree (psychology) at a small college not all that different from TCU. I finally convinced my husband to move back to TX with me this past June, so by the time we start our nursing program, I will have been back in the state nearly a year. I miss the beauty of East Tennessee for sure, but I am also glad to be back "home." No kids yet, just two spoiled dogs who cause more excitement than they rightfully should. My husband is a chef, which is fabulous because I am no cook. As for my personal interests, I like to do yoga and nia in my spare time at a local yoga studio here. I also work part time right now at my mother's small business in Saginaw. Otherwise I am enjoying some peace and freedom while I can, because I know it's not going to last much longer!

Jene', and any others in the forum who haven't spoken up lately, what are your degrees/work experience in? I am always concerned that I will be one of few that has no professional or academic background in the medical field. This is all new to me!

Hi Renee, Erin, and everyone else!

Thanks Erin for the housing tips. I'll definitely be asking you more about specific areas during the next few months. hope you don't mind. =P I was actually born in San Jose and raised in Cupertino. I went to UC Santa Cruz and studied Environmental Studies and Sociology. I've been living in San Francisco for the past 5 years. I just completed an LVN program and am prepping for the nclex. Not sure how i'm going to manage balancing studying for the exam, preparing to move, working, and taking my last 3 pre-reqs, but I'm determined now more than ever! Why Texas? Well, my boyfriend considers Texas home (San Antonio area) and since I was looking for out-of-state schools, it was a natural choice.

My name is Frances as well. =P You can call me Frankie or Fran so it won't get too confusing. Hope to get to know you all better in the coming months!

this is what frances emailed me today...

" march 16 - deadline to submit nursing seat deposit of $400. the reason the letters are on hold is we are in the process of adding a link to our web where students can pay online as opposed to money orders. i will keep you posted on the progress. - may 4 - mandatory orientation day.

- may 14 - first day of class"

hope this helps:)

No way!!! This is too exciting.... I relocated to Texas 5 years ago, I grew up in San Jose:) My parents live in Willow Glen!! Congratulations Jene, Frankie, Erin, and all who I haven't read about... yet:yeah:

-Monica

Mlozoa, Are you in too? Did ******* give you any idea of the time on May 4th? I am booked in a flight to Orlando going to Disney World the day before, but could delay by one day to attend the orientation. I'm assuming the orientation is pretty important!! :). School starts two days after my hubby graduates with his MBA from Baylor!! The fun never stops! Jene'Hooray!!

JAMSALEStoRN Yes ma'am, I have been accepted!!! To answer your question, she didn't give me a specific time (might want to email her). Yes, please don't miss orientation.

Woo hooo! Congrats to you and your hubby:yelclap:

Hooray!! I am so excited for all of us!!
